Reflections for Sergeant Jeffery Bryant Shaw
My heart and prayers go to the citizens of this community, to friends/family, to fellow Officers/Deputies and to his much loved and cherished wife/children.
Society lost a good man, but God gained another angel.
Daddy may not be coming home, but he will forever watch over you until you meet again. Remember him fondly as his continued embrace will keep you safe and his love will endure the test of time.
A portion of something I wrote a few years ago:
Some people wonder why so many Officers converge on towns across this nation, when an Officer is Killed In The Line Of Duty. I can simply say, that they come to pay respects to someone who did the job they do, in support of other Officers, as a show of respect to family, and to show Pride, Integrity and Honor for a fallen hero whose community has lost a friend. I have attended way to many of these but if you shed a tear for another, it will help cleanse your soul. It is the memories that will get you through the years.
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death and though I mark on duty, my calls unknown, I fear no evil, for the majority are with me, nor do I worry of my own safety, all of this I do for the citizens of my community. An Officer’s family can be filled with worry and though they are strong, they know that their loved one may be placed in harms way.
Though I have made mistakes, accept me, as I accept you and show me the way …..Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
To all Officers, risking your life for the benefit of others and who are trying to make a difference, may God bless and keep you safe, for you are the pillar of stability in our community, the keepers of our safety and the ones who we will call if we ever need help. Hug your family, let them know what you feel inside, for they are the strength behind you, which allows you to endure. Lift your head high, knowing you have done your job well with Pride, Integrity and Honor.

RIP brother Jeffery.
May God bless and be with your family, co-workers and friends at this very difficult time. One can hardly put into words the sadness at such a time, however I believe the following says it best:
Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.
Dear Madam,
... I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln

To the wife, son and daughter of Sgt. Shaw: We can never truly understand why a parent is taken from a child, or a spouse loses a life partner and best friend. I have shared your loss and through that know that time will bring a new day when you least expect it. Know and keep close to your heart that your husband, friend, and father served well and is remembered both in deed, sense of duty and sacrifice by those who call him a brother and friend.
You are in my prayers as he watches over you.
