Reflections for Trooper David J. Lane
Today I give thanks, honor and remembrance to a great guy who can put the smile back on the face of a person who lost 100 million dollars. Trooper David J. Lane was truly a special kind of person, and I'm thankful for having the opportunity to spend some time with him. David will never ever be forgotten.

It doesn't seem like 15 yrs. It seems like yesterday.....our hearts still ache and we miss that infamous grin and laughter. "Let's hug it out .....It is what it is....What da ya got... just a few of your sayings that we wish we could hear again and again. Your Law Enforcement Family came again this weekend along with Family and Friends to remember and honor you. The house and garage were full of laughter and stories of you. I miss you taping the faucet so I would get sprayed...I hated then but would give anything for it to happen by you. Your nieces are growing up but know all about you. Everyone says Chloe is your clone and your Brother is still reaping your antics from you through her. She is beautiful and smart and quick with an answer to everything like you were. Jeff is retiring in December with Rachet. You were blessed to have 3 dogs named after you with 2 great men as their handlers. Most of the guys you have worked with are now retired. You could retire next year. Doesn't seem possible... all the if's come rolling back...It's so hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember and who was so loved. " The guys" will be here tonight after work to remember you and your Family! Your cousin said I don't care if your sick of us from the weekend I'm coming to remember him on the 4th anyway. I would never be sick of them because they remember you!!! We miss you every second of the day and wish you were with us! Watch over Dustin and Matt who are serving because of you and all your Brothers and Sisters in Law Enforcement and retired. Love you so very much and miss you more! Mom

David,
You popped up in my memories today. I was talking about Halloween today and the memory of Kelly and I working at The Inn at Leeds Halloween party Oct. 31, 2009 and as she was sending you pictures of our costumes you called and I could hear your laughter. Only to walk into work 4 days later to be blind sided by the news of this tragic accident. Keep watching over your family and friends. You will never be forgotten!

Yesterday was National Law Enforcement Day and your beautiful niece's Birthday! Oh how I know you would have loved your nieces and what a great Uncle you would have been! It brings a smile each time I see them because they have your same grin. Oh how I miss that "what are you up to" grin! Taking the decorations off the Christmas tree, brought tears as I placed the served proudly bulb from Iraq 2003 in its box. Next year will be 20 years that you returned home in April with the Christmas tree still up and you slept in the recliner that night in front of it.....doesn't seem possible. You would have been 4 years from retirement from the State Police this year and married 11 yrs on September 11th,2021. Your Brothers and Sisters in Law Enforcement still come to our home each year to celebrate your life. We are honored to have each one and never expected that they would want to come for 12 yrs but we know why you loved them so very much because we love them all as well. You have a new K-9 named Rachet "what they called you overseas because you fixed everything. " Jeff has DJ and Rachet and David has Lane. We appreciate their dedication and their families sacrifice of time and money to honor you and take care of these amazing dogs. I know you are with your favorite Coach and I'm sure you are busy watching over everyone. We love and miss you more each day but we are stronger and try to remember you by helping others in your memory! Help God bring your Brothers and Sisters home each day and night and know that your Family loves and misses you always and forever! Love and hugs, Mom

A day doesn't go by that you are not remembered and thought about my brother. Like many I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I got that call 11 years ago. We all miss you! God Bless you and your family. Keep watching over your family and your fellow brothers and sisters.

I served with you from basic training in Ft LenordWood. You were a bunk mate a battle buddy and friend. Us NY guys stuck together. I became a police officer much like you here in NY in 2013 after 8 years in the Army. I’m so saddened by the loss of you and so may other great people I have had the pleasure of serving with. I’ll see you in the end.

My prayers are forever with Cheryl and the entire Lane Family. I often time think about David with a smile in my heart. I have always enjoyed our conversations while he was assigned to SP Watertown zone. I also had the honor, however sad, of coordinating his funeral arrangements within Division of State Police. Dave was a good man, and he will NEVER EVER BE FORGOTTEN.
