Reflections for Police Officer Timothy Q. Brenton
A Part of America Died
Someone killed a polideman today, and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will
stand up in court.
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that we walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today.
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died.

To the family and friends of Officer Timothy Brenton and his fellow officers:
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Brenton was tragically killed.
To Officer Brenton's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I know this must be especially hard on his father and uncle who are retired officers.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Timothy gave to his community and the citizens of Washington, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 31, 2009.

Mrs. Brenton,
May you find the strength in God to put one foot in front of the other in the coming days, months, and years. Hug your children close as you share memories of their daddy....their daddy the HERO.
Know that your children will walk the streets safer now, for beside them is their guardian angel. Their angel that stands tall, fierce, and brave. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Rest in Peace Officer Brenton.

For Officer Timothy Q. Brenton:
The act of approaching a law officer who is seated in a vehicle and firing shots killing him and then taking flight is the act of a low-life and a coward. I am confidant that those responsible for this act will be hunted-down by all those whose have the responsibility of investigating this incident. Law officers everywhere will give the hunted vermin no rest.
We pray for the family, friends, co-workers and all those who care about Tim. May each of them remember the best moments they shared with him for the rest of their lives.
As a fellow law officer, I a proud to render Officer Timothy Q. Brenton a final salute.

Psalm 144:1-6
1 Praise be to the LORD my Rock,
who trains my hands for war,
my fingers for battle.
2 He is my loving God and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield, in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me.
3 O LORD, what is man that you care for him,
the son of man that you think of him?
4 Man is like a breath;
his days are like a fleeting shadow.
5 Part your heavens, O LORD, and come down;
touch the mountains, so that they smoke.
6 Send forth lightning and scatter the enemies;
shoot your arrows and rout them.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

Tim,
I did not know you, but I worked with your brother, Matt, for several years at Snohomish County and we continue to be good friends to this day. The second I heard the name "Tim Brenton" on the news, my heart sank. My mind instantly flashed back to Matt's Facebook page and seeing you add little notes to his posts. It was obvious that you were very close. I don't know what to say other than this whole situation is beyond comprehension. You will be missed. Matt, if you're reading this: Please take comfort in the fact taht all your friends care about you deeply and would do anything to help you or your family. Take care, buddy.
