For Sergeant Mickey Hutchens:
Our duty as law officers is high-risk and encountering an enraged person during a domestic situation brings the risk even higher. One who is emotional and crazed by jealousy, envy, revenge or any of the emotions connected with these situation easily transfers that rage to arriving law officers. We can only confront these incidents with our training and experience. Fate, though, sometimes rules the outcome. Such is our lot.
We pray for the family, the friends, co-workers and all those who care about Mick on this day. May each of the remember Mick both as himself at his very best and his dedication for law and order.
To Sergeant Mickey Hutchens I am pround to render a final salute.

I regret that I never had the opportunity to work for Sgt Hutchens, but one need not go far around the department to hear of his heroism and dedication to this community. It has been a difficult week for us all at WSPD, but we will push foward, answering the next call and looking out for one another, because that is what Sgt Hutchens would want.
Rest in peace Sarge.

I just read his obit in the Winston-Salem Journal. He was
truly loved and respected and my prayer is that many officers, friends and community members will come to know
the love and salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ thru his
testimony at his service. God grants us peace when we have
reconciled with Him thru His son's sacrifice on the cross as payment for our sins. We can live without fear when we have assurance that we will be spending eternity with Christ forever. He is our BEST assurance policy. Don't leave home without it!
I know you must be very proud of this officer and grateful
to have had him on the force for 27 years. Not everyone can
do this job, it says alot about the man he was. My heart goes out to each one of you touched by him.
