Upon hearing that Deputy Etheridge passed I got that empty feeling of the loss of a family member, in this case a brother, a fellow Deputy. I have never met Brian but the feeling of the loss is none the less. The law enforcement family has lost a brother and we suffer because of this loss. To Deputy Etheridge, his family and his brothers and sisters at the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Brian,

You always had a smile on your face. That's what I'll remember the most. I think back to the day when we ate lunch together and you were brand new, just out of FTD. You asked me how long it would be before you would get the good beats and you were tired of being out west all the time. I told you that you needed to give it time and that you wouldn't always get stuck on 1 or 8, but that's how it goes when you're a rookie. You smiled and said that you knew that, but you were tired of chasing cows all day. It could have any of us and we all know that. You did everything right. Know that we will watch over your family and each other. We love you and we will never forget the light that you brought into our lives. Sleep well and watch over us as we continue to keep this 1,008 square miles of home safe. You will be missed more than you could ever know. Goodbye brother, go home to God.

My first thought upon being told Deputy Etheridge had been killed was - "That's impossible! He is just a kid."

What a cruel and senseless waste of a young life so full of purpose and potential. My heart aches for his entire family but most especially for his daughter.

Go with God, Deputy Etheridge. Those who have fallen before you are awaiting you. ~~ We will not forget. ~~

Deputy Etheridge you are truly a hero in my eyes you left this world a man of honor. You wore the badge proudly to serve and protect.....that is what you did until the very end. You were a truly selfless being never asking for anything and giving so much. For the citizens you helped so that they would feel safe in their homes and as they closed their eyes every night and woke up every morning they had you to thank. To you and the men/women who have died before you. You truly are my heroes and to your family and friends I am so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you! God Bless you Deputy Etheridge!

Yesterday was and will be the saddest day of my life, one of our family members was taken from us. Brian was one of the most loving, caring, generous, charasmatic honorable person I have ever had the honor of meeting. Whenever I had a question about Kansas law or how to cut a case I remember Brian was the first one to me aside and answer them and help me feel part of the family. Brian I know you can hear me and I want you to know I love you and you will always be in my thoughts and heart... REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER
