Whether you knew me or not - whether I knew you or not - is irrelevant. The second that you took the oath and put that blue uniform on, you became my brother. You became my hero, just like all of the others, no matter what department they were affiliated with. When one is hurt, a part of me hurts. When one comes to the end of his or her watch, a part of me dies, too. Mrs. Etheridge, please know that God will wrap His arms and love around you and your baby. He is very proud of Brian, and Brian is home now. "No greater love has any man than this: to lay his life down for his fellow man." Well done, good and faithful servant.... well done. To those in law enforcement who are left behind - keep the faith. God Bless you all.

Former Deputy
Sedgwick County Sheriff Dept.

For Deputy Brian S. Etheridge:

Our duty as law officers takes on paths that most people will not travel. We have no choice but to confront others who choose to break the law. We generally must leave ourselves open to criticism, ridicule and even permit others to make the first move before we can defend ourselves, otherwise we risk appearing too aggressive.

Deputy Brian S. Etheridge is our lates hero among heros. He chose to be a true soldier-of-the-law and do his duty as only heros can -- face to face. He was gunned down by another who proved not only to be dangerous, but a coward as well. Thankfully for the actions of responding officers this cop-killer can now terrorize only the residents of hell.

Brian is now among other proven heros who will embrace him as only brothers and sisters can. We pray for his family, his friends, his co-workes and all who care about him. May they all remember him as the noble person he has proven to be -- a protector of his fellow citizens.

As a retired PA state trooper and FL deputy sheriff I am proud to render him a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

In times of horrible tragedy and grief, One must remember the things in life we are grateful for. I am grateful and honored to have served alongside Deputy Etheridge. It is truely a shame that his life had to end before his law enforcement career really got started. You will never be forgotten and your family and friends are in our prayers. Rest in peace brother.

May God walk beside you and your family during this trying time and show you that love from your family and friends is never ending and always enduring. I almost lost my nephew when an elderly lady was going the wrong way on the highway and he came very close to dying. We had a miracle and prayed Deputy Etheridge would have one too. May God Bless you.

Officer Etheridge, words cannot explain how wonderful of a deputy you were. You took your job to heart and always proved to be a hero. I know you probably never heard this enough, but you made a difference in our community. My son respected you so much. You always treated the kids and young adults around here so well. Always went out of your way to just say hi. One time you stopped my son for not turning on his turn signal and when he came home he wasn't angry instead he said you were the coolest cop he had met in a long time. Right away he trusted you and admired you. You will be missed a great deal and never forgotten. To your family my thoughts and prayers are with them as I know that you will still watch over and guide them. May you rest in peace and always be remembered as a HERO.

My heart breaks for your family. We lost a young swat member in our county 4 years ago and the county still grieves as I know your friends and family will. You are never old enough to die. Thanks for your service.

As the wife of a retired Wichita Police Officer and the mother of a current Wichita Police Officer, I wanted to say thank you for you ultimate sacrifice. Police Officers are the first person to be called when we are in trouble and the last person to be thanked for their help. Every day I say a prayer to keep my son and his fellow officers safe. On Monday we all lost a protector of life and property, a Hero! My heart aches for the family that Brian has left behind. Brian was way to young to loose his life to such a senseless act of violence. In the years since my husband first started working on the WPD, we have seen officers die and each one gets a little harder to understand. Please know that your family will be in our prayers and you will never be forgotten.

Watch over us as we continue to answer the call for service in honor of your hard work and ultimate sacrifice. Rest in Peace Brother and guard the gates in Heaven as you did here with us!
