Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Brian Scott Etheridge
Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Brian, you are in my special thoughts this day. I often think of the last time I saw you and the times over at grandpa Ralphs and all the laughter and joy and fun times. Know this...you are still and always will be remembered and honored by those who love you and by those who alongside you, made the choice of serving and putting others before yourselves.

Larry and family. I never met your son but I have always shared your loss knowing you and also being a former Sedgwick Co. Officer myself. I see names of officers on here that I knew very well. Years have passed but memories are still there. I have always said " it takes a special person to be a cop" you don't do it to get rich, but to help people. I am sure Brian was that kind of special man. May God bless all of the family and friends that share the loss of Brian.

Deputy Etheridge,
Though we never met my good man--it is clear you were a model man to many as evidenced by what has been stated on this forum. You went to work, you stood your post, and you fell while protecting this community. Your life was wrenched from you, you did not seek the finality of that day--rather it found you. Just as those who fell before you, and those still serving know-- every day they don the shield and lace up the footweat--that same fate is but a knife stroke or club or bullet away from befalling them. That is courage deputy. That is selfless love. You stood, and you fell-- for those of us still so privileged to live this daily experience in humble admiration of men like you. We salute you, and the others in the long line of service to community and family across this nation. Rest well in the mansions prepared for you.

Today, in my sociology class, we were talking about fallen deputies-Etheridge came to my mind! In my small group later I explained that day when I heard the news, everybody was either crying or looking at me with a face of sympathy! I was a Sheriff Cadet at the time and had rode with Etheridge a few times. Each time I learned something new, or got clearification over something! He was a great Mentor!
Etheridge ever since you passed, everyday I think of the ultimate sacrifice you made, and how you went to work everyday fighting evil of the world, promoted peace, and lead a life that somebody like me could follow! You have made me want to become a law enforcement officer that much more! Thank you!

Dear Brian,
In one week it will be 2yrs since the day you took your place in Heaven. You stood tall and protected our families from the evils of this world, now you are standing next to God, protecting Heavens Gates from the same. Know that we still pray for your family each and every day. We miss you, your smile and the good feelings we all had when you were around. One day we will meet again and we all know that when that day comes, you will be there for us. To greet us with that smile of yours and to let us know, (as you always have), that everything will be alright.
Thank you for all that you have done for us young man and thank you for watching over us and keeping us safe.
God Bless
