Officer Richard Scott Crittenden Sr.
I always knew you were a hero, and now the world agrees. I've created a video in my minds eye, and have played it many times. I think I know how it all played out. I've known you for 53 years brother, the only way anyone could get at your gun, was because you were too busy protecting a woman and her child to also protect your gun. They say 30 seconds-14 shots-officer down. Thanks to the actions of your back-up, Officer Olson, of the Maplewood Police Department, the scumbag is also down, never to harm again.
On behalf of your Mother, your Sisters: Francy and Juanita, your Brothers: Ralph and I.
You will be always loved, and severely missed.
I know you will be safe, now that you are at heaven's gates. Rest in peace our brother, 3933 you are now 10-10 on Earth.

With the funeral over I know that the families loss has only just begun. Know that the law enforcement community continues to stand behind you and walk beside you throughout the difficult times in the years to come as your loved one has done for us. Words cannot convey the sorrow we feel for your loss.
Officer Crittenden touched so many lives. Although I never knew him; he was a Brother to me that I can't help but admire. Thank you for your honor and courage. I only wish the world would have come to know your qualities in some other light. You live on in memory. We will never forget the sacrifice you made. Rest easy Brother and watch over us.

Like so many others we are shocked and saddened by the loss of someone so great. We have known Rick for only a short time but even so he and Christine are very much a part of our family. Rick was someone so many people looked up to and one many admired. My son viewed him as a friend, grandpa, and hero. He was someone Andrew was able to laugh with, cuddle with and love. We will deeply miss him, not just as an officer but as a loved one. His family has been in our thoughts and will continue to be in our prayers.

There are no words to describe the loss that we all feel right now. Rick you were such a wonderful man, husband, father and police officer. Always there with an encouraging word and a kick in the butt when we needed it! No matter what the situation you were always there ready to listen, encourage or just give a pat on the back and a smile. I will always remember that dry sense of humor and just the way you were always happy. You have made such an impact on my life and for that I am so greatful. You made the ultimate sacrifice and are a true hero. RIP Critter. You will never be forgotten!

Critter,
It was an honor to know you. Monday after hearing you had been killed was the first time in my life I wondered why I am a police officer. Hearing the stories and knowing how you touched peoples lives made me realize the reason we put on the uniform. The best way to honor you is to get back in the squad and do my job to the best of my ability. I am glad we had a chance to see each other that morning and I was able to tell you how I met some of you former co-workers. I wish I would have said goodbye.
RIP Critter. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Our sympathy to the family and friends of Officer Crittenden. We know the sorrow you are going through as Dennis' step-brother is a fallen officer as well. The outpouring of love and support from law enforcement throughout MN and numerous other states was overwhelming. In time the sorrow will pass...but you will have your precious memories forever.

My condolences to Officer Crittenden's family, and his brother & sister officers. We all do our best to do our jobs the best we can and sometimes that isn't enough when the situation is not within our control. Rest assure that officers like Richard will never be forgotten. I end all my correspondences with other officers or agencies the same way "WORK SAFE" to those continuing to do their duty, follow that thought....

The noblest heroes put themselves in harm's way to protect another who will surely be harmed without action. Thank you for your sacrifice; to your family, no sense can be made of the senseless. Please take comfort, though, in the thought that heroes are never forgotten; their memories are everlasting.
