Richard, Having started your career at a later age in life, it sounds like people really liked you, since you were older and wiser and had more life experience (unlike myself who was 22 years old when I started, immature, and arrogant). You certainly left your mark on your community and will be sorely missed. Thank you for your service.

Richard,
I never knew you, but I grieve for you and your family. I've served for 11 years, and I've seen many good men and women come and go. Only a few due to the call of duty.

I hope your family finds peace in knowing that you were protecting the helpless. You paid with the ultimate sacrifice, knowing that one day it might come to this. I salute you, as do all the men and women of my department.

Thank you.

R.I.P. OFC. CRITTENDEN..
i grew up just a few miles away and my husband is a deputy sheriff here in AZ... words can never express how big a lose it is espically to a dept. so small..
time and time again we hear about domestics and how bad they are and once again it turns fatal. those ofcs went in knowing this like all do and in the end 1 was called home makeing that thin blue line even thinner and injuring a second fate interveining for both of them.
i have friends who live just down the street from the incident and they love that city and are raising they're children there because of the sacrifices people like ofc.crittenden make.
god speed to all family and friends of both those ofcs. and know that law enforcement everywhere and they're families will keep you in they're prayers and continue to do the job while those of us who love them will continue to love them all that much more.
and to the dept's of n.s.p. and maplewood know that we here in arizona are with you and know that you'll continue to work through the pain and lose that will never heal but over time becomes more manageable...
thank you ofc. crittenden for protecting my friends and they're families and making the ultimate sacrifice...

"A Part of America Died"

Somebody killed a policeman today,

and part of America died.

A piece of our country he swore to protect,

will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,

with counsel demanding his rights.

While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,

and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,

just as if he'd gone off to war.

Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,

to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,

in your town or mine.

While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,

a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,

and he stands at each new rookie's side.

He answered the call,

of himself gave his all,

And A Part of America Died.
