Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrolman Chad Ernest Spicer

Officer Spicer,
You are a hero and the whole world will miss you. I can't stop thinking about your daughter. Before I leave for work I look each of my children in their eyes and tell them I love them, because all of us know this could happen. I hope that God comforts those who worked with you, are related to you and just knew you. Rest in peace.

Again another Brother lost. May you rest in peace and know that you, your family and fellow Georgetown officers are in our prayers. I lost my partner Matt Williams and his K-9 DIOGI this month three years ago to the same senseless act. Gods speed and I am sure they will be waiting for you to welcome you to a better place.

We were just visiting our friends in Berlin, MD this week when we heard of the tragedy. On our way home today we saw numerous marquis signs extending their sympathies. It really touch our hearts. Two months ago, our neighbor, a Jersey City Officer, MarcAnthony DiNardo was also shot and killed. We know that pain and heartache that this family is going through. But, we also see all the out pouring of kindness that the family is receiving from all the family and friends and while this is no replacement for departed loved one they are still being looked after and cared for. This Officer left behind a wife and 3 children, 4, 3 and 1. Though all of these children are young, their fathers will live forever in the stories that so many people have to offer. These men leave their families everyday to serve us and keep us safe and it is sad to say that very few people appreciate what they put on the line each and everyday to do their job and do it well. May God Bless Officer Spicer and all of the fallen officers before him and watch over all of our working community of officers. God Bless their families to gather the strength to go on each day and for all of us to keep everyone in the law enforcement field in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

I was reflecting yesterday about the dangers of the police force. I saw this web site today and wanted to add my condolences to the family and friends of Chad. He gave
everything for the welfare and safety of his community. I
thank his family and I have a renewed respect for his job. I do not live in your area but the risk is there for all
officers and I appreciate what they do for my community.

No words can define the true feeling of loss or condolences. The word "tragedy" does not fill the void left behind by the courageous action taken by a police officer killed in the line of duty. That void is filled with the love of family and friends; the admiration and respect of peers; and the acknowledgment of duty by the public at large.

Another angel of the Thin Blue Line is watching over the rest of us on the street. In that, at least, I find peace.
