Policeman’s lament
Somebody killed a policeman today and part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids and spend many long lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too, just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-staff, to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today, it happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all and part of America died.

Rest in peace brother. We will take it from here.

Heartfelt condolences to the family of these brave souls and the GPD. This is truly a sad day for all of us who love the town of Georgetown. I grew up and attended school in Georgetown. Therefore; this tragedy really hits home even though I now live in Wilmington. I grieve with you and hold you all up in my prayers. Be blessed!

Somebody killed a policeman that day
And a part of your country has died...
A piece of your country he swore to protect
Was buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of your nation won't still fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that killed will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her child
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman that day...
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call... of himself gave his all,
And a part of your country has died...
You will never be forgotten by your Police Brothers and Sisters. Thank you for your service to your country and to your community. Rest in peace Brother.

To Patrolman Chad Spicer, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family:
I was sorry to learn of Chad's death and extend my sincerest condolences sn the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Spicer family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.
There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Chad's memory will be forever honored and revered.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Chad gave to his community and the citizens of Delaware, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 1, 2009.
