Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant David Joseph Kinterknecht

May you rest in peace, Sir! You will never be forgotten.

Dearest Sergeant Kinterknecht,

I write this in your memory to thank you for being one of the biggest heroes of all. Domestic violence affects so many women (and men) in our country. It's hard to reach out for help and even more discouraging when not taken seriously. This woman sounds like she was in dire need of intervention with this dispute - it might have been her. Instead it was you. My heart goes out to everyone who has been directly affected by losing you, but I hope they will know that women and men need officers like you. Thank you for responding quickly to a domestic dispute so quickly and ultimately giving your life.

I will always remember you with utmost respect and gratitude.

I would like to thank everyone who has left a message. I just had the courage now to read all of them. They all are very loving and heartfelt. I am aslo a wife of a police officer and our oldest son is also a police officer, now I am a sister of a brother who was killed doing his job, by someone who did not have the courage to kill himself. Again, thank you all for the very meaningful messages. I will be getting a print out of all the messages to keep. Thank you and God Bless you all.

Dave Kinterknect was an amazing man whom I was lucky enough to know. He was a man that intimidated me initially because he was a big man. Winds up that that big man had a heart just as big as he was. He had a crazy smile like he was up to something. He was a great listener and helped me so much in my hard times when my husband became a police officer. He was an amazing man and I loved him. Montrose will never be the same without him. Please never forget what these men and women do for all of us. Dave is a HERO in every since of the word. Thank you Seargent Kinterknect.

Sgt. Kinterknecht, May you rest in peace. You served the citizens of Montrose Colorado well. We will continue the fight against the evilness that takes away the brave officers everyday from their families and co-workers.

To your wife and children, know that your husband and father will never be forgotten and his sacrifice was not in vain. The world is a better place because of him... He is remembered now and forever in our hearts and prayers...

I was attending the Outward Bound course provided by COPS (concerns of police survivors) when this occurred. We were all staying in Grand Junction, CO. It was very eerie to us all to find this out, it's incredible how something so close can happen that we know just how it feels. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, COPS is a family waiting with open arms and I can only hope to meet this family in the future. We will meet under unfortunate circumstances but after unwillingly being a member of COPS for 7 years I can truly say it changes lives for the better. Once again, my love to the family. Sgt Kinterknecht is a true hero

This tremendous loss is made bearable only by the fact that Dave will always be a presence in the lives of those who loved him and respected him. His spirit certainly has the strength to live on in the profession and in the heart of every Montrose police officer.
