Officer Rosas, thank you so much for your service and sacrifice. You are in my prayers, as well as your family.
This brings home the pain of another Border Patrol Officer killed in the same area in June 1997. His name was Stephen Starch. He was my boss's new son-in-law. I saw upclose the pain and grief that a senseless death like yours causes. May God give peace to your family and keep you in His arms.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

May God bless you Robert Rosas and your family. You protected us, me and my family and our country. While we slept, watched TV or enjoyed the summer you secured our border at the cost of your life. I know somewhere a close relative will wait for you to come through their front door.I know the feeling because my son served several tours as a combat flier. In his case he always had a backup or served as same. He was never alone as you were. I urge the authorities and congress to give your colleagues the backup they need. Hopefully you did not die in vain and the pain your family suffers will be recognized by corrective agency action. Thank you for your bravery in a war that the current
political elite refuses to acknowledge. Thank you for doing what some feel is a job that is less important. Thank you for your lonely courage. Thank you as an American who would have been proud to know you.

Below is a copy part of part of the letter purportedly written by Abraham Lincoln to a grieving widow. To me it still has relevance to day. Our family's prayers are with agent Rosass' family
Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.
Dear Madam,
... I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they (he) died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln
