To Deputy Leroy Matthews, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family:
I was sorry to learn of Leroy's death and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Matthews family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.
There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Leroy's memory will be forever honored and revered.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Leroy gave to his community and the citizens of Idaho and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 6, 2009.

To the family of Deputy Matthews: I am so very sorry that you are having to go through this...my husband was killed in the line of duty in 1998. I know there is nothing I can say to make this better. Just know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Leroy was a good man, from a good family. He always treated me and mine with respect, and his love for the children of New Meadows made working with him at the local level a breeze....he will be sorely missed.
