Reflections for Police Officer Henry Canales
I recently learned about Henry’s death. I served with Henry in the USAF as a security policeman at Mather AFB in 1986. He was an amazing, humble, honorable man. He is one of the many I served with that I remember fondly. He loved his Chevy truck he had at the time and I remember laughing and sharing many great moments with him. I am sad i lost contact with him and many others i served with from 1986-1990. His loss to his family, friends, and community can never be replaced. He always made me laugh at stressful times in my life and i will never forget him. Rest in peace my friend.

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

My heart was truly saddened when I heard of the passing of my friend Henry Canales. Henry and I were stationed together at Mather AFB CA. We spent hours talking in a small truck while keeping watch on the WSA. I consider myself lucky to have known him. God bless your family still with us and god bless you Henry.

Henry and I rode together on occasion while assigned to the Northeast substation. We had a lot of fun riding together. He was a gentle sole, who loved his family. It's amazing how much police officers learn about each other's lives while riding together. He had a passion for racing and building hot rods I remember him showing me a small dragster his daughter raced. He was a good cop. I had left the department before Henry was killed. I remembering watching the news and Henry's picture flashed up on the screen and the reporter stating Henry was shot and died. I couldn't believe it. I just wanted to say, Henry you are not forgotten. May you rest in peace.

After thirty years since you and I worked together at Mather AFB in Sacramento, Ca., I got a hold of one of our mutual friends and he told me of your passing just yesterday. You, me, Jeff, Steve, Bruce and Tom all had such great times together. I know you as a great man and I am sure you were a great husband and father as well as an excellent police officer for Houston. You are missed deeply and loved by many. God bless you Henry.
Your friend forever,

Henry and I were stationed together at Clark AB in the PI (Cobras). It was a pleasure and joy to work with him. I will always remember the good and bad times that we shared. Henry had a great sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes. He was a friend and mentor to me and I will always remember him. Rest In Peace Brother! I know that you will be looking over us and will you always be Eternally Vigilant!

I found this doing a search on my family name, and do not know Office Henry nor do I live in Texas. However, I am saddened to learn that Police Officer Henry Canales has died. Every day Law Enforcement of every type leave their homes to go to work, and not all make it all back home. We as civilians, do appreciate the daily danger, and sacrifices they and thier families make...but they are not recognized and thanked enough for doing the job they do....
Thanks from Lake Worth Florida. I am from the Canales family near Corpus Christi Texas.....Ray C. Canales
Rest in Peace....
