Reflections for Assistant Chief Joseph Christopher Cannon

Rest in Peace my Brother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones.
----------------------------
I AM A WARRIOR
by Jon F. Hooper

I fight not for glory or fame,
For they are momentary.
I fight for those who can't.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets,
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
But tears of joy,
For now,
I stand with God.

The following is a Fallen Officer's Prayer that was found while a Pueblo Police Officer visited the N.Y.P.D. Museum & Ground Zero in 2005 Officer's Prayer

Fallen Officer’s Prayer

I Never Dreamed It Would Be Me.
My Name For All Eternity.
Recorded Here At This Hallowed Place.
Alas, My Name, No More My Face.
'In The Line of Duty' I Hear Them Say.
My Family Now The Price To Pay.
My Folded Flag Stained With Their
Tears.
We Only Had Those Few Short Years.
The Badge No Longer On My Chest.
I Sleep Now In Eternal Rest.
My Sword I Pass To Those Behind And
Pray They Keep This Thought In Mind.
I Never Dreamed It Would Be Me.
And With A Heavy Heart And Bended
Knee, I Ask For All Here From The
Past...
Dear God, Let My Name Be The Last.
What a shame to know AC Cannon only had 2 weeks before retiring...To all who knew AC Cannon and his family, friends we send our sympathies to all.

The death of Chief Cannon is an absolute tragedy. I did not know him personally but as all of you LEO's know, that does not matter. We are all grieving the loss of a family member today. Rest in peace Chief, enjoy those streets of gold!

God bless his family, friends and the Plumerville Police Department, they are all in my thoughts and prayers. This was a very sad story and so very unfortunate being so close to retirement. His death should never be forgotten and his great service he gave to his profession.

May the Lord be with Joey's soul and may he rest in peace.

Thank you for all you taught me, the example you set, the life of service you led, the many laughs you gave me, and most of all for the selfless sacrifice you made. You were a warrior and a gentleman. You are a hero to so many, including me, and the void you leave will never be able to be filled, but your memory will live on in our hearts. We will look back on your days with us in great fondness. My little girls will miss you, and I'll remind them of you when they're older. And when she calls me her hero, I'll tell her what a real hero is. I'll miss you in a way that words cannot express. The blue line got thinner when you left us. May you bask in God's loving arms and grace now and until we meet again.

As one who was lucky enough to reach retirement it truly saddens me to read of your death which was caused by a coward. It is sad to loose a life at any time but to be this close to enjoying the fruits of your labor and have it taken away from you and your family is a real tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with your family, your department and your community. May you rest in pease after a job well done.

"Assistant Chief Cannon had served with the agency for nine years and had served in law enforcement for 27 years. He was scheduled to retire in two weeks."

Absolutely unbelievable. May you rest in peace and thoughts and prayers to your family, friends, and co-workers. Such a shame, especially after a long career of almost 30 years. God bless.

"No greater love is there than this...that a man would lay down his life for a friend." Chief Cannon you did just that for those citizens of Plumerville you call your friends and because of our sacrifice the streets of Plumerville are safer today. God bless your family and may, in time, God grant them peace and understanding. I thank them for their sacrifice they too have made in allowing you to do what you did and that was to serve and protect even if it cost you your life.
May God bless you and keep you strong.

To Assistant Chief Joey Cannon, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family:

I was sorry to learn of Joey's death and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Cannon family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.

There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Joey's memory will be forever honored and revered. How tragic this horrific event happened weeks before his well-earned retirement.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of distinquished service Joey gave to his community and the citizens of Arkansas and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 19, 2009.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
