Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sergeant Andrew Tingwall and his family. There is no greater heroism then risking your life to help a stranger in need. Sergeant Tingwall showed that heroism in 2008 when he rescued a man from a flooded arroyo in Albuquerque, and he showed it yet again on Tuesday when he flew in to help the lost hiker. Sergeant Tingwall embodied all of who we hope to become as we begin our law enforcement carriers. With all our hearts we thank you for your time and service, and we ask that from up above you watch over us as we go out to serve as you did.

It was my honor to have served with Sgt. Tingwall during his tour of duty with the 4th Recon Btn. United States Marine Corps. Andrew Tingwall was an outstanding Marine.In 1995 my parent's RV broke down near Gallup, N.M. Sgt.(then patrol officer ) Tingwall arrived on the scene and prevented several very questionable individuals from acosting my elderly parents. He stayed with them until
a tow truck arrived. Sgt. Tingwall was a true hero in many ways. God bless him and the New Mexico State Police for the
work they do.

In our daily mission we never know what tasks are required from us. We know one thing however, whatever the mission calls for, we will always seek to perform it in the most right and just manner. As family, we will always continue to fight for each other, because in times of peril, that is all we have. This time though we remember our allegiance to each other as we will never leave a fallen comrade. We reflect and pay tribute to one of our own, Sgt. Andrew (Andy) Tingwalls. His contributions and actions to the State of New Mexico will always be remembered and his dedication to service will never be forgotten.

To this we offer St. Michael’s Prayer

Saint Michael the Archangel
Defend us in the day of battle

Be our protection against the wickedness
And snares of the devil;

May god rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,

By the divine power of god, thrust
Into hell Satan and all evil spirits
Who wander through the world
Seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

As members of the first squad of the 103rd Cadet Class for the Albuquerque Police Department, we are extremely proud to be entering the career field that helped to define the “stand-up” character of Sergeant Andy Tingwall. One of the members of our squad had the privilege of knowing Sergeant Tingwall when they served together in the Marine Corps with the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, Delta Company. He remembers Andy as a mentor…someone who truly went out of his way to make those around him stronger parts of a greater whole. Andy never took himself too seriously and made sure that his fellow Marines did the same. He was unwavering in his commitment to “accomplishing the mission.” He makes his fellow Law Enforcement Officers and Marines, his Country, and his State very proud. Our hearts go out to the family and friends that he leaves behind. We will carry the torch for Andy…always! Semper Fi!

As cadets in the 103rd Albuquerque Police Academy class,
we are quickly learning the significance of the bond
amongst the men and women whose blood runs blue. This
unfortunate event will never be forgotten and will be used
as a reminder of what each and everyone of us are choosing
to dedicate our lives to- the protection of the innocent.
Our deepest condolances go out to the family of Sergeant
Andrew Tingwall. Shed no tears of sorrow, but tears of
joy, for Sergeant Andrew Tingwall died doing what he loved
to do.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Andy Tingwall,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May you find peace and comfort knowing that your husband, father, brother, son truly gave of himself in his sacrifice to his fellow man. He will forever hold a place of honor to all of us.

If you ever long for someone
Look past the tears you cry
They are up in heaven now
God is by their side
And as they lay to rest in the presence of the Lord
Know that they will meet you there
Right at Heaven’s door.
