As I patrol the apartment complex where you lost your life, I still see the blood on the street from that night. Its hard and I push on, for the good people you protected for so long. Know you are missed and rest in peace. We will do our best to fill your shoes but we know it will be impossible to do.

Rest in peace my Brother. You were an outstanding person and Police Officer. I attended your funeral. The amount of people and Love was overwhelming, this showed how much you meant to the citizens of Centreville and surrounding cities. The Police family was there in full force. To Lt. Greg Jonas, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family:
I was sorry to learn of Greg's death and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Jonas family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.
There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Greg's memory will be forever honored and revered.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Greg gave to his community and the citizens of Illinois and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 2, 2009.

Greg Jonas was a man that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. I mentioned him to my current officers just a week before he was murdered. He was my FTO, my mentor, a fellow officer and a friend. Greg absence will be felt throughout the metro-east area by both officers and citizens alike. The Centreville/Alorton area and society itself, is a sadder and darker place without Greg in it. God Bless You Brother !
