I was sorry to learn of Steve's death and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Hood family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.
There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Steve's memory will be forever honored and revered.

For Master Sergeant Steve Hood:
The duties of law officers are many. Among them is the pursuit and arrest of all violators of the law. Somethimes it is routine and ordinary traffic enforcement. But, all actions of enforcement have perilous consequences. Of the most dangerous is the operation of a patrol vehicle at high speed.
We regret the report of any law officer being killed while doing his or her duty. The most tragic, is seems, is the death of a law officer near the end of his or her long career. It demonstrates that danger looms from the day we first hit the street until the day we turn in our uniforms. It is our lot.
To have lost Steve, especially when he was so close to his well-earned retirement, is disheartening. A hero, and one who led heros, has departed from us. Each of us should resolve to honor him by continuing and increasing our vigilance for the traffic violator. Those who would flee shall not be the victor. It is our duty to see that the public remains safe on the highway.
To Sergeant Hood's family I can only say that their father, brother, son or husband was a proud protector of mankind and a soldier-of-the-law.
To him I render a final salute.
