Reflections for Detective Omar J. Edwards
His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
May God be with everyone!!!!!!!!!

This is a tragic death period. Nothing can change to bring Officer Omar J. Edwards back to his many families, including his family in Law Enforcement. I feel the sadness of this tragic death, and ask that we take a little time out of our day to pray for Officer Edwards soul, and pray for the other officer who mistakenly took the life of his brother officer. May Officer Edwards rest in peace, and I pray for God's blessing to bring peace to Omar's family. RIP.

To the Family of Officer Edwards,
My heart goes out to you more than words can say. I have been on the police department for 18 years and recently have made lieutenant. The down side of this position is that I am closer to the supervisor who notifies the family of any death or serious injuries of their family member. Working on duty is dangerous, but society does not understand that even off-duty, we as officers, cannot turn our OATH on or off like a light switch. Officer Edwards is proof of that theory. I pray that the investigation reveals the truth of the details, even if it is an ugly truth, in order for Officer Edwards to rest peacefully.
I pray for much strength to the family and time is the only thing that heals sorrow.
Yours Truely,
Lt. Gill

I am saddened to hear of such a tragedy. My thoguths and prayers are with Ofc. Edwards' family. He went above and beyond the call of duty as most all N.Y.P.D officers do. Once again I'm saddend to hear of this tragedy form one of America's elite police forces. I hope that the other officer can forgive himself for it was an accident and accidents happen. My thoughts and prays are with that officer and his familily as well.
