Reflections for Sergeant Claire T. Hanrahan

Claire’s niece here,

Thank all for the kind words and thoughtful posts. Reading these posts on a day like today I cannot help but cry. When I lost my aunt in 2007 something clicked that I needed to follow in her foot steps. Currently I am a Detective but in a few months I will be Sergeant hopefully carrying out her legend with her shield number. Thank you all for your service and your service on this tragic day. Rest easy my hero. Hope you’re opening multiple cans of whoopass up there.

Claire, we were neighbors, classmates and friends from Kindergarten through high school graduation. You were my first kiss and my most trusted female confidante. A week before I left for the U.S. Air Force Academy, you said you planned to study Criminal Justice en route to the NYC Police Academy. At the time, I was taken aback... thinking that you might be too feminine and too frail to be a cop. Boy was I wrong!

You exceeded my expectations and clearly excelled in uniform. You served the city and our community with confidence and courage.

Having not seen you in over a decade, I was saddened when I heard you were sick in 2006. Before I knew it, you were gone. By reading all the other testimonials, it is clear you had a positive impact on so many people. R.I.P. dear friend...I love you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 11th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for solace and strength for everyone who misses and loves Claire. We will never forget the sacrifice made by each of the 9/11 heroes and their families.

Claire became my friend when we went through training. She was an intelligent and caring person. It is no surprise to me that the term 'hero' placed beside her name. I will remember you Claire. My sincerest condolences for her family.

You were such a great aunt and a great mother. I miss you more and more every single day. I wish I couldve gotten to know you better than I did but unfortunetly that privledge was taken away me. I know your watching over me and I hope you stand by me as I join the NYPD and serve my city in your honor. I will never forget everything you did for me and all the places you took me just like I was one of your children.♥ I love you, Rest in Peace ♥
