Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Rickie Allen Pearson, Jr.

It still feels like you are going to walk back into the class room. How I have watched you grow from first seeing you ready and eager to prove yourself in the academy to role playing in BLET, and then leading your cadets through the POPAT. We did make a good team and had a blast doing it. You will be missed. I seem to go to this webpage a little too much to visit my fallen comrades-but you are in such elite company now-with all of our heros. RIP.

For Detective Allen Pearson:

The duties of a law officer are many. None strikes as much tension and fear as that of facing a crazed individual with a gun. Especially one who has killed others. And who stands to face long imprisonment or even death.

Law officers such as Detective Allen Pearson possess what it takes to have faced this situation. Knowing what price he might have to pay. I somehow know that Detective Pearson, like all who stand for justice, would have preferred nobody have died on this day. I also know that one who would shoot a law officer would be far to cowardly to give anyone a chance to apprehend him alive. Cowards kill from hiding. And when they are killed by law officers it is nothing more than an act of suicide. An act of one too afraid to face his deeds. One too craven to face the world. One who has no honor.

Detective Allen Pearson died this day and an officer with him who was seriously wounded. They, and the other officers on the scene, are the people who keep us safe. The ones who faced the fire. They are the heros. They fought for the victim killed by the offender. They fought for her family.

Detective Allen Pearson paid with his life. The law officers with him paid a price, too. I pray that they can deal with the aftermath of what only those in battle can know. And what most others will never know.

To Detective Allen Pearson I render a final salute.

A PART OF AMERICA DIED
author unknown

Somebody killed a policeman today
and a part of america died..........

A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried at his side.

The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;

Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
to his name they will add a gold star.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,

While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.

Yes sombody killed a policeman today......
Maybe in your town or mine,

While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookies side:

He answered the call....of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.....

Professor Honeycutt mentioned your name in class the other day, and spoke of his relationship with you and your family. This led me to investigate farther and find out more about you and your service to your community. I am a criminal justice major studying to go into law enforcement this year, and I hope one to to exhibit the selflessness and courage that you had on your last day on the job. May you patrol the streets of heaven for eternity. God bless your family and friends!
