Reflections for Police Officer Eric Guy Kelly

For: Police Officer Eric Kelly
Police Officer Stephen Mayhle
Police Officer Paul Sciullo, III

The fate of these police officers, our brothers, could be the same for us. We who wear a badge and enforce the law. Whether we could be as brave is something that I hope none of us ever have to learn. Experience tells me, though, that at some other time and some other place some of us will. My hope and my prayer is that we survive. By whatever it takes and by whatever must be done.

I feel the pain and the anguish each of us feel at this time. A deranged person who respects no one has slain three police officers by surprise. Officers murdered by a coward -- in hiding. An act of the most craven of all.

A legion of heros, who have died wearing the badge, shall await these Pittsburgh police officers on the evergreen shores of eternity. They will welcome each of them as heros among heros. Our thoughts and our prayers are with all of their families, all of their friends and all who know and respect them.

To each of you I render a final salute.

Sir, I am awed by your display of honor, bravery, and courage. You were off duty, yet chose to go into the war zone to protect your fellow officers. Your actions epitomize what it means to be a hero. Brother, I am honored to leave a reflection for you.

Ofc. Kelly in your death and more importantly your life you displayed what it truly means to be a police officer. More than a job it's a brotherhood. Your shift was over for the day you were off the clock and on the way home to loved ones when your heard two fellow officers in distress. When others would have continued home and let the guys on duty worry about it you took action. You sir exemplified everything that is right in our line of work, I pray you continue to watch over your brothers in death as you did so willingly in life. To the family of officer Kelly know that he is a true hero and will never be forgotten by his brothers and sisters in blue. He and all of his loved ones will be in my prayers.

All of them stand up
Still a few of them stand out
They got a place on a wall
Never got that gold watch

Their pictures in a frame
Below a date and a name
And written up above
In memory of

In memory of
Who wouldn’t bend or break
In memory of
The lives they bravely gave

Yes, in time we’ll pass down
That shield so proudly worn
To another one in blue
In memory of

All of the Brotherhood
Who have ever heard the sound
Won’t ever forget the call
Of another officer down

There’s a space up on that wall
That’s already reserved
For the next hero that falls
In memory of

In memory of
Who wouldn’t bend or break
In memory of
The Lives they bravely gave

Yes, in time we’ll pass down
The shield so proudly worn
To another one in blue
In memory of….YOU…

Yes, in time we’ll pass down
The shield so proudly worn
To another one in blue
In memory of
In memory of
In memory of you

Officer Kelly, the old saying, Police Officers are put here because Firemen need hero's too. Well sir, you were put here because we cops need hero's as well. Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents & our comfort is the assurance that He will judge the guilty.

Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.

Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.

Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.

Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.

We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.

The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
As we recall in comfort
You await us there.
