I am so saddened to lose a group of brother officers once again after the horror in Oakland. RIP Brother, you are missed and never forgotten. My sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of this hero.

I just heard the news of the shooting and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved and the Department. Domestic Vio calls are ALWAYS the most dangerous calls an officer responds to. You all are in the Los Angeles Police Departments prayers. Rest in Peace.

I remember when I hired Paul up in Pittsburgh in the banking industry. I did not know at that time that he would become a friend, nor did I realize he would end up being a cop. I remember when he went through basic training and completed it, he was so happy. He had said that becoming an officer was the best decision he had ever made. My heart goes out to his family and I really don't find it at all fair that we are losing another one of the 'good ones' to something so senseless. Godspeed to everyone as we remember and honor his service, and his life...

My heart breaks for Officer Sciullo's family, friends and co-workers. I am sorry that you have to experience this horrible pain.

Officer Michael H. Wise, II who was killed in the line of duty in 2004 was my husband so I have an idea of the pain. He was a former City of Pittsburgh paramedic and he always had good things to say about the officers who worked in the City. He said that the officers were always there when the paramedics needed them. I also have two friends who are officers and I know they must be hurting right now along with the rest of the department and the City.

My heart goes out to Officer Sciullo, his friends, his family, his fellow officers, and his fellow residents of Pittsburgh. It's a great town that just experienced a horrible loss. My condolences to all.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

To Officer Paul Sciullo, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his Pittsburgh Police Department family:

I was heartbroken to learn of Paul's death and the tragedy of today's events for the officers involved, their families, and their department. We were holding a meeting of the Northern California chapter of COPS when we received news of this horrific incident, and we were all deeply saddened.

I extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Sciullo family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.

There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Paul's memory will be forever honored and revered.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Paul gave to his community and the citizens of Pennsylvania and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 4, 2009.
