Lt. Reddick and I have the privilege of conducting the selection process for the Montana Highway Patrol. There are applicants that shine brightly throughout the selection process, and Mike was one of those applicants. He was a quiet person but always very polite and courteous, and he always had his paperwork in immaculate order. I was proud of Mike as he developed into a fine Trooper. I had the honor of reading his biography during the badge pinning ceremony. It was evident he had great pride and love for his wife, daughter, and parents.

Trooper Haynes, you will always be remembered. Thank you for your service to the Patrol and the citizens of the state of Montana.

To his family, may God hold you and uplift you as you remember Mike.

Blessed be the memory of Trooper Michael W. Haynes.

As I walk through the valley of death, I fear no evil. For you are with me. These words have never meant so much as they do as my career continues, now at 16 years. I see these great people losing against evil. Troop, it was not in vain. Your brothers and sisters will carry on the fight. We will pray for your family and your co-workers. You are now in a place of peace. Continue to be with the survivors, so they may continue to fear no evil. RIP Sir!

I never knew Trooper Mike Haynes but I could have. He is like the thousands of Troopers patrolling our roads across the nation from Montana all the way to New York. He understood what duty meant. Rest in peace Trooper. The lord only calls his best home.

Rest in peace brother! Another young life ripped away from us by a drunk driver! Sir I humbly add you to the list of officers I honor each time I make an arrest for an alcohol related driving offense! I continually pray the list won't grow!

To your family, friends and brothers/sisters in blue(green, tan, brown) -- please know we mourn with you. While you are weak we will hold you up, til your strength returns, your tears are dry, and your resolve is firm. Then we will again stand together. Woven into this tapestry with the thread of brotherhood and standing along the thin blue line of brotherhood! There we will never forget!
