Dear Sergeant Daniel Sakai,
You gave your life in the line of duty ~ you are forever an American Hero. God Bless you and keep you in his loving care. Be on the lookout for my nephew Christopher, I am sure he will welcome you to his squad with a big bear hug.

To Sergeant Sakai’s family, friends, and co-workers at the Oakland Police Department. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I also know your pain and my heart aches for you.

This poem was left on my nephew's reflection page, it touched my heart, and so I pass it along.

I'M THERE INSIDE YOUR HEART

Right now I'm in a different place,
And though we seem apart,
I'm closer than I ever was...
I'm there inside your heart.

I'm with you when you greet each day
And while the sun shines bright,
I'm there to share the sunsets, too...
I'm with you every night.

I'm with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two,
And if a tear should start to fall...
I'll still be there for you.

And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart,
I'll smile and hold you close to me...
Forever in my heart.

I sit here in stunned disbelief at a horrific event that has so far claimed the lives of three heroes. We are, once again, reminded that there is no such thing as a "routine" traffic stop. My sincerest condolences to both the professional and personal families of Sgt. Sakai. His time on this earth will not be forgotten
