May Almighty God bless our fallen brother, his family, and his law enforcement family, with God's grace and peace in this most difficult time. May God also comfort the other 3 officers and their families with His consolation and mercy. What a senseless act of violence by one man, that took the lives of four brothers serving God and country through law enforcement.

Your brothers and sisters in Kansas are praying for you!

Serving God and Country,

Rev. Dr. J. Dean McNamara
Chaplain/Reserve Deputy
Chautauqua County, Kansas Sheriff's Department

To the men and women of Oakland Police Department - may you find peace among the grief and comfort among each other.

To the family and friends, please know that the world is a better place for having had the honor of your loved one's presence, if only for a time too short.

Rebecca Harding Davis expressed it best when she wrote:
“Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero, he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor, by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world.”

Four brave police officers were gunned down in one day. The loss has been a terrible tragedy, especially to family and friends.
Sgt. Daniel Sakai, Sgt. Mark Dunakin, Sgt. Ervin Romanse and Officer John Hege each swore to serve and protect; and they did so to the very end. They were the shield and sword that helped contain an evil that threatened the City of Oakland, California.
The memory of these officers can never be forgotten. Their sacrifice can never be repaid. These officers are now shining guardians and they will be dearly missed.

HE’S WALKING A BEAT IN HEAVEN,
WITH A NEW PARTNER TO HELP HIM ON,
UP BEFORE THE FIRST LIGHT OF MORNING,
WITH A SAD SMILE GREETING THE NEW DAWN.

HIS BADGE GLOWS BRIGHTLY WITH GLORY,
HIS BOOTS ARE STILL SHINY BLACK,
FOR THERE’S NOT MUCH DUST IN HEAVEN,
EXCEPT FOR SOME STARDUST ON HIS HAT.

THERE’S NOT MUCH TO DO,
FOR A COP IN BLUE,
ON HEAVEN’S LONELY BEAT.
DRY A LITTLE ONE’S TEARS,
SOOTHE AWAY SOME FEARS,
OR JUST WALK THE GOLDEN STREETS.

HEAVEN CAN BE,
A SAD PLACE TO BE,
FOR A COP WHO FELL TOO SOON.

WALKING THIS LONELY BEAT,
AMONG THE SUN’S FADING HEAT,
HE SMILES SADLY AT THE RISING NEW MOON.

ONCE IN A WHILE,
A STRAY TEAR WILL FALL,
EVEN THOUGH HEAVEN’S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANY PAIN.

THINKING ABOUT THE WIFE,
HE LEFT BEHIND,
HIS ARMS ACHE TO HOLD HER JUST ONCE AGAIN.

HE’S WALKING A BEAT IN HEAVEN,
WITH OTHERS WHO FELT THE FALL,
BROTHERS TO ONE ANOTHER,
THEIR NAMES PROUDLY ON THE WALL.

Growing up in Vietnam, longing for the true freedom from Communism,i have deep respect for the men and women in uniform.I was blessed to come to AMerica and fortunate enough to attend one of the finest public university-Cal.While in College,i worked at Sambo on 3rd and Broadway in Oakland,i got to meet the caring, the kind policemen of OPD who always reminded me about safety of coming to work early in the morning.Who gave me words of comfort when South Vietnam fell in APril of 1975.I had cried since Sunday when i read about the big loss of our finest gentlemen of OPD force and Officer Sakai was one of those. What made it was more painful was,he also graduated from my alma mater and Mrs Sakai is UC,Berkeley Police Officer. You both gave your own safety to protect us,normal citizens.Thank you,Mrs Sakai.Words can not describe my feeling in sharing the pain with you and your family during this difficult time.Officer Sakai gave his life for all of us.He will always be our Guardian ANgel. And all of us,citizens and the small Cal Alumni community will forever be grateful.May Goid Bless you and your family. My sincere hugs to the little Princes of yours to know, her Dad was and always be our Hero. For real.
THANK YOU.THANK YOU.

Angel in Blue
He worked the Holidays and week-ends, away from the families and friends.
To keep the peace for you and me...
Then one day he paid the price, he gave his life...
You have done well my friend, patrolling these earthly streets.
Now it's time to walk on Heaven's beat...
The next time you a Police Officer or two...
remember they are one of God's Angel in Blue...
And God said:"BLESS ARE THE PEACE Makers....

Please accept our condolences on the loss of of your loved one.

This is dedicated to each of the fallen officers:

You stand before your locker,
You open it with your key
You say a little prayer,
Lord will it be me?

Then you dawn that suit of blue,
Star and brass polished to compliment it too
You run down your list
Is there anything I missed?

A glance at the photos taped to the door
You say to yourself, I pray I’ll see you once more
Satisfied you look your best
Off to roll call with the rest.

A quick briefing and you’re on your way
Knowing not what will happen today
Duty and honor foremost in your mind
Never wavering while saving mankind

Others know you merely by sight
Dressed in a suit of blue and star shining bright
Revered by most, hated by more than a few
You press on, because that’s what cops do

You’ve done your duty for today
Then a late call comes your way
Without hesitation you answer the call
Radio tries to raise you, no answer at all!

Your BROTHERS IN BLUE speed to the scene
Only to find that on this day, fate has been mean
Yet another policeman has been slain
The BROTHERS IN BLUE swear it will not be in vain
