To fall by the hand of a foreign enemy is a bitter tragedy. To fall by the hand of a domestic enemy is an abomination. For your service and ultimate sacrifice, thank you sweet hero.

I remember Danny as a 10 year old boy. He was the first person I ever saw that could laugh when others teased him for his Boy Scout Uniform or for being incredibly smart. I didn't understand at such a young age that what I saw in Danny was maturity. He possessed maturity and intelligence beyond his years. When we were in seventh grade we studied together a lot. When it was time for Danny to take a test, he was like a motor cycle racer at the starting line, hunched over his paper with gripping his number 2 pencil in hand like like he was revving his engine, glancing over his shoulder at me with a huge smile. He was always prepared. He taught me how to use chop stick to wrap nori around sushi rice in one motion. I always looked up to Danny and wished that I could have just half of his positivity, motivation and dedication. He was so unique that if you knew him even as a kid, you can't remember knowing anyone else like him.

Your sacrifice can never, and will never be forgotten. You protected those who can not protect themselves and provided hope for those who were at their lowest. You greatly touched the life of every single person you met, and through your sacrifice, have impacted many more who never had the honor of meeting you. You have inspired us through your courage, honor, determination, and integrity to achieve our greatest in everything that we do. Throughout the careers of the members of this class, we can only hope to be as great of an officer that you were. You will forever live on in our minds, our heart, and our souls. God bless you and your family.

I was out of town when I heard the news that five officers had been shot in Oakland. Then I heard three had died. I was in disbelief! It hits close to home when we lose a fellow brother in blue, but to lose three during the same incident was unbelievable. When I discovered Danny was one of the officers killed, I was shocked and saddened. I did not know he was a Sergeant with Oakland PD. It hit me hard having lost three fellow law enforcement brothers, but knowing Danny was a casualty made it that much worse. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to his family, especially his wife and child. I prayer that Jesus will comfort them at this very difficult time, and that they remember: To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
