HE’S WALKING A BEAT IN HEAVEN,
WITH A NEW PARTNER TO HELP HIM ON,
UP BEFORE THE FIRST LIGHT OF MORNING,
WITH A SAD SMILE GREETING THE NEW DAWN.
HIS BADGE GLOWS BRIGHTLY WITH GLORY,
HIS BOOTS ARE STILL SHINY BLACK,
FOR THERE’S NOT MUCH DUST IN HEAVEN,
EXCEPT FOR SOME STARDUST ON HIS HAT.
THERE’S NOT MUCH TO DO,
FOR A COP IN BLUE,
ON HEAVEN’S LONELY BEAT.
DRY A LITTLE ONE’S TEARS,
SOOTHE AWAY SOME FEARS,
OR JUST WALK THE GOLDEN STREETS.
HEAVEN CAN BE,
A SAD PLACE TO BE,
FOR A COP WHO FELL TOO SOON.
WALKING THIS LONELY BEAT,
AMONG THE SUN’S FADING HEAT,
HE SMILES SADLY AT THE RISING NEW MOON.
ONCE IN A WHILE,
A STRAY TEAR WILL FALL,
EVEN THOUGH HEAVEN’S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANY PAIN.
THINKING ABOUT THE WIFE,
HE LEFT BEHIND,
HIS ARMS ACHE TO HOLD HER JUST ONCE AGAIN.
HE’S WALKING A BEAT IN HEAVEN,
WITH OTHERS WHO FELT THE FALL,
BROTHERS TO ONE ANOTHER,
THEIR NAMES PROUDLY ON THE WALL.

On behalf of the Denver Police Department, I wish to convey our deepest sympathy to the families of the fallen officers.
I wrote this for all of you:
You stand before your locker,
You open it with your key
You say a little prayer,
Lord will it be me?
Then you dawn that suit of blue,
Star and brass polished to compliment it too
You run down your list
Is there anything I missed?
A glance at the photos taped to the door
You say to yourself, I pray I’ll see you once more
Satisfied you look your best
Off to roll call with the rest.
A quick briefing and you’re on your way
Knowing not what will happen today
Duty and honor foremost in your mind
Never wavering while saving mankind
Others know you merely by sight
Dressed in a suit of blue and star shining bright
Revered by most, hated by more than a few
You press on, because that’s what cops do
You’ve done your duty for today
Then a late call comes your way
Without hesitation you answer the call
Radio tries to raise you, no answer at all!
Your BROTHERS IN BLUE speed to the scene
Only to find that on this day, fate has been mean
Yet another policeman has been slain
The BROTHERS IN BLUE swear it will not be in vain

My heart was sickened by the news of this horrific incident. I see and hear daily ,incidents where young people have simply chosen to live like base forms of humanity, and wreak violence and destruction without fear of judgement. Rather than be disheartened by the loss of Sgt Romans,we all should thank God that men like him are brave enough to stand up to the lawless, and I pray that God grants him and his fellow fallen officers rest, and that God also grants his family, friends , and co-workers peace. Please, keep them all in your prayers.....
