People have no respect for officers. I will keep your family and friends in my thoughts. This was horrible. One low life took the lives of 4 awesome men. May they rest in peace. We know the shooter will never be a peace.

To the men and women of Oakland Police Department - may you find peace among the grief and comfort among each other.
To the family and friends, please know that the world is a better place for having had the honor of your loved one's presence, if only for a time too short.
Rebecca Harding Davis expressed it best when she wrote:
“Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero, he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor, by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world.”

The loss has been a terrible tragedy, especially to family and friends.
Sgt. Ervin Romans, Sgt. Daniel Sakai, Sgt. Mark Dunakin, and Officer John Hege each swore to serve and protect; and they did so to the very end. They were the shield and sword that helped contain an evil that threatened the City of Oakland, California.
The memory of these officers can never be forgotten. Their sacrifice can never be repaid. These officers are now shining guardians and they will be dearly missed.
