Courageousness doesn't begin to describe the hearts of these men and women who make our streets safe and venture in where angels fear to go. We owe them our freedom, our peace of mind and our sleep filled nights. We thank you, everyone of you, who step up to the call, who selflessly put your lives in danger for the safety of strangers and to your families who await your safe returns after each shift. May God watch over you and yours and reward you richly.

Sergeant Dunakin, Officer Hege, Sergeant Romans and Sergeant Sakai, your deaths were senseless and unnecessary.

You had the guts to work in a city most of us would never dare to work in. You gave your lives, believing the people of Oakland were deserving of the highest level of service. I hope the people of the City of Oakland are as grateful for your service as your fellow officers are.

Rest in peace my brothers. We have the watch.

I can't believe this has happened. What a raw feeling inside. There are no words to describe the deep sorrow we are all feeling.
I remember Sgt. Dunakin when he was an Officer and took us on an adventureand showed us some good stuff from the community policing van, while I was in the Oakland Police Academy. What a bunch of rookies! He was a truly friendly guy with a fun personality.
You and your service will not be forgotten.

Here in Kansas City, we all grieve with broken hearts for these 4 heroes: Officers Dunakin, Roman, Sakai, and Hegee.

I am only a citizen, but I know quite well that were it not for officers like these, none of us could live as we do here in the USA.

God be with all the families, and all those who loved these brave men!

God Bless you/Mary keep you all-

Thank you for your service Sergeant Dunakin, you are a hero. I can't believe I am leaving reflections for three officers as are many who care. This horrendous tragedy is unacceptable to me. My prayers go out to all the families and fellow officers. This price was way too high to pay.
My heart is broken.
