"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough...
And sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awful tough.

But I never took a penny
that wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
but if you don't...I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly
for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman.
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."

Hernando Co. Sheriffs Office, Bierwiler Family:

Although I did not know Capt. Bierwiler my long association and friendship with the family here in New York, told me all I need to know. I am certain beyond a doubt Scott was an exemplary officer, leader and most importantly father, husband, and friend. I know this because it is a family trait and that I know for sure. Although a few words typed in this script cannot ease the pain and loss you all are experiencing, please know that my family and I have you in our thoughts and prayers. I can asssure you that we here in the emergency services have you in our thoughts as well. I know surrounding yourselves with the brotherhood is good medicine, and you will draw strength from each other. We have never met but I know from the caliber of your department you will adapt and overcome, and the memory of your fine leader will help you all perservere. Stay safe and if in any way I can help any of you please don't hesitate to ask. God Bless all of you.

I am proud to have known you, proud to have worked with you and honored to call you a friend. I will miss your easy going demeanor and quick smile. You had a way of making people feel at ease around you. You were the same person as a Deputy that were as a Captain. My families thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. February 21, 2009

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.

But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and he said,'I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.'
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....In the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human they are bound to bring tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you would not understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you to;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented...that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low:
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.
I will always be with you!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Dear Scott

At a time like this words cannot express one's sudden sad feelings of the bad news. During the past few years of knowing you, I am proud to call you my friend. You were there when Buccaneer Chris Hovan #90 and I were Special Honorary Deputised. The times that we shared at different community events suchs as: Beat The Heat, when you got in the dunk tank, Community Service to Citizens in the Park, Say no to Drugs, Multiple 10-12 ride alongs from the Forrest Oaks Office and the tragic loss of Deputy Mike Stegner, you always came over to me and took the time to welcome me and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers up and WWE Wrestlers that I bring up to your agency and to say thanks for my support. To speak of you, I must speak of your family who you always spoke so highly of and your fellow deputies. There was never a time that you did not speak of one or another member in a positive way. I think one of the most memorable nights with you was the night I did a Tribute for the opening of a WWE Wrestling Show in New Port Richey and I was up in the ring as the announcer and brought Buccaneer Bruce Gradkowski with me when I dedicated the show to Deputy Mike Stegner. You were there again for my support and for Jim and Peggy Stegner, with your son Scott and other fellow deputies. When Mike's picture was lower from the ceiling and I had Jim and Peggy come up into the ring, you had tears in your eyes sitting ringside as we all did. Your caring comments to me always proved that you are a great humanatarian and will be remembered for that aas well. I also remember one afternoon last summer also when I came up with WWE Big Mike the wrestler and he picked up your son and put him up on his shoulders with his arm around you as well for a photo and you turned to John Cameron and I and said..."Dave, thanks for all you do for our deputies bringing these guys up here for our law enforcement support". If there was ever a negative comment about you....I never heard it and if there was ever a kinder man, I had never met him. Scott you will be truly missed by all your colleagues, myself and and most of all your family. I know that when the phrase is used "god has a plan for each of us and when he saw you...he said he needed you now to guard the heavens above and to welcome everybody as you did me to your sheriff's agency.
God bless you Scott and we thank you for being a part of our lives.

Sincerely,
David C. Williams,
Hernando, Citrus, Pasco, Polk and Sarasota Special Honorary Deputy
