Scott,
It was a privilege to get to meet and know you at the National Academy just this past fall. You were a great neighbor there on the 12th floor of the Jefferson Dorm!
You were a true professional in every sense of the word. Your dedication to your family, friends, and chosen career will always be an inspiration to those that want to "get it right". You did it all without shortchanging anyone.
God bless you, your family, and your department. You will always be remembered in my thoughts and prayers.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

To the Family of Captain Scott Bierwiler,
I cried tears of pain when i read of Scott's passing.
See we ourselves lost our loved one who was killed in the line of duty in Chesterfield,Virginia 6 years ago.Ryan Cappelletty. he was my sister's only son.
The pain for us is still there and will always be there. We share your grief and hope for God's comfort for you and your family.
Lean heavily on your friends and family now for support. The officers in this wonderful departmart in our county will be by yourside long after the fact.
The only thing that we have to help us is that the memories of him are so strong still. The chance to be able to share those years you had with him are so special. He wanted to be with you and make these special memories for you to remember and be able to smile when you think of them later on when you ask that big question, why?
Please know that you and your family are not alone that you have the support of the community and the wonderful officers in the Hernando county department.
We have our blue light shining in our front window to show that we still grieve for our loved one and we will grieve for you loss also.
May God be with you and your family at this difficult time.
Scott please know your fellow officers will take your watch, it's your time to rest and we'll meet you later.
With deepest sympathy,
Teri Whitney
