Rest in Peace Officer Matthews, May your family find
comfort in the family, friends, and fellow LEO that are
surronded them at this time. Our daughter-in-law Deputy
Sarah Jones, EOW 10-19-08, was also so, to young with so
much to give and help. Gave her life for the love of the
badge. In the blue skies above, I now know we have a place
called blue heaven.

Peace,

Rich,
I remember when you first came in December, 2006. I was fortunate to be your dispatcher while you worked the desk and I was also fortunate to be your dispatcher on occassion when you went out on the street. You are the kind of officer that any dispatcher would be honored to have. Your kind thoughts and deeds did not go un-noticed by us in dispatch or those people on the street that you came across. You were a officer that always made me smile when I worked with you. Thank you for the things you did for the City of Wilmington. It is a better place because of you and because of what you stood for. You will be missed greatly. RIP 313

To the family of Officer Rich Matthews and the Wilmington Police Department, I have been praying for you all every day since this tragedy happened. I have cried many tears for all of you. I am truly sorry for your loss. May God wrap his loving arms around you and comfort you today and the days to come.

I have played and replayed a song entitled "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me...if you get a chance to listen to it - it is a beautiful song...and I think of Officer Matthews when I hear this song - not knowing him, but knowing that he is in heaven and how glorious it must be to see the face of Jesus...

Officer Matthews - thank you for your service and being a hero...may you rest in peace.
