Reflections for Police Officer John Pawlowski
I’m writing a post on Facebook, on a page, called, Justice4ErickaBrair and I thought of you. I remember going to jury duty and watching the news there, when it said they were looking for jurors for your trial. I thought, this was my lucky day. I knew the man who did it should have gotten the death penalty. When the judge asked if anyone knew any of the officers names that were mentioned, even though the officers didn’t know who I was, I had to tell the truth and raise my hand. They never even heard of my name but I heard of their name, because of Ericka Brair. If I didn’t get involved with the Ericka Brair case, I would have been able to serve on that panel and found that man guilty! That was the last jury duty I ever had. I think about your wife and a little little one all the time I guess the little ones not so little anymore. You’ve been in my prayers And I look at the Philadelphia Police Department in the totally different way now! You would think by now, I would’ve forgotten about that day, but I don’t I don’t think I ever will. So yes, I was a juror on that panel but wasn’t picked. I want to thank you for your service and for all that you’ve done as a Philadelphia police officer. Rest in peace, Sir, And thank you for making us alll feel safe.

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Twelve years after my colleague and I traveled to Philadelphia to pay our respects to Officer Pawlowski's family, friends, and fellow officers, I still wear his memorial pin on my uniform tie every February. February 20th will always stand out in my mind as the day I saw a brave American brother in blue laid to rest. Officer Pawlowski, your sacrifice is not forgotten, and may God bless all of your PPD sisters and brothers with safety always.

Remembering this day. Was with fellow Ofcs from Illinois, we were visiting the Philadelphia Police Pulaski Assn for their banquet. We all heard the news while at their clubhouse. Everything stopped as we took a moment of silence in prayer for Ofc Pawlowski.

SLAIN PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICER REMEMBERED 11 YEARS LATER
Posted on February 16, 2020
6ABC NEWS
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- For years, his face and name has been visible on walls of the 35th police district, right alongside side other heroes of the Philadelphia Police Department.
And on Sunday, the family and friends of Officer John Pawlowski came together to remember a man who sacrificed everything in the line of duty.
"John was a husband, a friend, a hero he was taken away from us February 13, 2009 at the intersection of Broad and Olney," said Ofc. Robert Hoppe.
Hoppe spoke at a vigil outside the 35th District during a vigil.
Officer Pawlowski was shot and killed 11 years ago as he responded with his partner to a call of a dispute between a cab driver and man with a weapon.
That man, later identified as Rasheed Scrugs, reportedly told the cab driver he would shoot police if they came.
Scrugs, who was also later convicted for murder and is serving life without the possibility of parole, shot Pawlowski above his bullet proof vest. Scrugs himself was also shot.
"I just hope no one ever forgets what he did and the sacrifices that he made for our family and the whole city of Philadelphia," said wife, Kim Pawlowski.
She was also in attendance with her children, including her oldest, named after his father whom she was pregnant with at the time of his untimely death.
"You can't cry every day, but this week it always gets me, February 9 comes around and the anxiety building up for all of the events," she said. "Eleven years have passed, I'm still standing," she added.
His brother and sisters in blue supportive as ever.
"In the 35th district we'll never forget John," said one police officer.
And they are reminded daily of the friend, brother, and hero this city lost far too soon.
"He was a fun-loving guy that everyone wanted to hang out with and party with, but he was a hard worker and he loved being a police officer," said Kim Pawlowski.
Officer Pawlowski had served with the department for five and half years.

Some days, dear JP - 10 years seems like an eternity...other days, it seems like yesterday. Watching that night's late news broadcast, we knew in our hearts it was you. To this day, I don't know why. Reading the reflections of LT Ray Flores NYPD on here, it's as though he was on the scene that night. His sentiments say it all - his experience & wisdom from his time on the job reflect what the families know.
Your joy of life, that laugh of yours...your personality that filled a room stays with us. One thing that will never change is the strength & solidarity of Law Enforcement families across our country. You are always remembered, dear Johnny. Not only today but every day.

Rest in peace my brother. Sad to say that this scenario can happen quite often by stupid people that we chalenge. Our law makers would rather you wait for that 'glint of steel'before you engage, but the Supreme Court say you don't have to. And this is why our brothers and sisters are put in harms way...that split second decision that will alter our life for ever....do you shoot the poor man with the gun in his pocket, or wait. Our laws must be more clarified to ensure that we are all going home at the end of our tours. And the media should stay out of the investigation and instilling criminality.

As always we thank you for your service. My uncle Richard Lendell's likeness is displayed to the right of this heroes at The 35th district mural. Some "dirtbags", as uncle Rich would call them, saw fit to desecrate this memorial last week. Rest easy knowing that your brothers and sisters have cleared the mess, and your memory of sacrifice will never be forgotten.
