I was saddened by the death of Corporal Norman Smith and from what I heard about him, he was an excellent officer doing his job to protect the public. My prayers are with his family and children and for all the Dallas Police and those who worked closely with him. Only God knows what is best for us and may Justice be brought to those criminals who killed Corporal Smith. Please keep all law enforcement in your prayers for Divine protection.

God bless you and your family Cpl. Smith. I've seen you many times on A&E's The First 48 and you exemplified nothing but professionalism and dedication to duty. I wish you would have lived to retire and spend the rest of your days surrounded by family, friends and others that you loved and those who loved you. You are the example that every LEO should follow and strive to become. Thank you for giving your life so that others in Dallas may live in a more peaceful society. Rest now.

My heart breaks for the Mrs. Smith and their family. As a proud wife of a police officer/SWAT officer, I pray for not only my husband's safety, but the safety of every police officer each morning. This year will be the 5 year anniversary of the loss of Sgt. Gregory Hunter with our department. His family is in my thoughts and prayers every day.....your family will be in my prayers now too. I know that the police family will take care of Officer Smith's family and give her so much love to get through this. I will be praying for you all to have strength at this sad time.

I was watching television last night when the heartbreaking news of Corporal Smith's shooting broke. My heart goes out to his wife, children, and other family members as well as his law enforcement family. My prayers are with each and every person suffering from his loss. Corporal Smith is yet another hero who gave his life trying to protect and serve his community. May God be with everyone through this difficult time and may he bring down a swift and just punishment for those responsible in taking the life of such a fine husband, father, friend, and officer. May God also be with his law enforcement family as they continue their work and Corporal Smith's work of protecting and serving their community and in making our country a little more safe. You will all continue to be in my prayers!

The following is a poem that a Detroit Police officer wrote

"For those whom remain"

The phone wakes us up this time once again
To tell us we'd missed our duty again.
We all should have been there to see the unseen
We all should have been there to help intervene.

The ER is now working at a fevered pace
While we wait outside and beg for God's grace.
The doctors come out with tears in their eyes
The chaplin tries to help us through our good-byes.

A pain in our soul begins to set in
Our duty is now to his family and friends.
To support and console is not the only task
We do this with honor and without being asked.

We meet at the church to pay our respects
And we go to the cemetary full of regret.
"Amazing Grace" from the piper again this time
We try and help each other not to lose our minds.

With salt on our cheeks and grief in our eyes
We leave our partner with one last goodbye.
Tossing and turning as the night goes on
Wrestling half asleep with what went wrong.

A brother has fallen from our ranks yet again
Leaving nothing but guilt for those whom remain.
