Tears for you and your child fall from many who never had the chance to meet Mason, but from what my son has told me he was a wonderful person and very proud of being an husband, father and officer. To Officer Samborski’s family,

Please accept my condolences in the wake of your tragedy. Another young life has been taken too soon. Officer Samborski did not give his life; it was brutally and senselessly taken from him. Life is not fair, and I thank God everyday for our Police Officers who try to level the playing field of good vs. evil by putting their life on the line daily to protect and serve.

There is so much to say to the family, friends and co-workers of Mason that it could not possibly be written in one reflection. You will go through so many different emotions at so many times throughout your lives after your loved one was taken from you. Grief, fear, anger, and loneliness are just the beginning of what you will endure. The most important thing everyone can do for each other is to be there for each other, and to be especially supportive of his wife and child. Not just now when emotions run high, but for the months and years ahead when they will still need you. Mason's family will want to believe in something, and right now, your words are what they are hanging on to. So keep promises made to his family as they will need to know that you care, that you remember. Speak of Mason often, especially to his child, as these will be the ‘memories’ you help create for her that will last a lifetime.

Godspeed Mason, your brothers and sisters in blue await you with open arms in the Heavens above.

Diane Bawcum, Mother-in-law of
Officer Mark Anthony Sawyers EOW 6-5-04
