Reflections for Sergeant Joseph Daniel Bock
It was 18 years ago today that you
beheld the face of God and that has
to be a greater reward than anything
on this earth compares to. You were
held in high regard here by people that knew you and your memory still is fresh after all these years. Time cannot diminish your sacrifice.

JD,
It's been almost 18 years since yuo went prematurely to be with the lord and I still think about yuo quite often and wonder why it had to turn out that way.I often reflect on our conversations and then I realize what an impact you had on my life over the years as I was growing into manhood. There are so many things I wish I had said to you when you were here, but I think you know how I felt about you as a friend, man and a police officer.I remember the day it happened I was at work and went to my office closed the door sat at my desk buried my face in my hands and cried.Valdez's sentence was commuted to life,I'm sorry our justice system let you down.JD you will always be missed by those who knew you and loved you,REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND, Brent

I've read your story and visited your grave here in Boardman Oregon. You would have been proud of your fellow officers. They obviously held you in high regaurd. You sir and all who wear the uniform are my heros. May we never forget those who have died in the line of duty.

I made it brother, now protecting our citizens here in the bay, answering those dreaded calls too. Want you to know I still miss you. Days dont go by that I dont remember your awesome smile and funny jokes. I have said it 1000 times, there was "but one" and there will never will be another as you. I want you to know that you made an impression on my life to the point that after 13 years I went back and tested again and now I wear the badge of honor and service. We miss you brother and hope Heaven still sings with joy. 110 Lives On!

I just wanted to say that JD meant a lot to me. My mother worked with him at the police department and he would babysit me from time to time. I also went to school with Danette. I worked in the school office as a student assistant when the news came to the school. I also remember going to the airport to pay my last respects before he went to his final resting place. It was so touching to see his casket covered in the American flag and roped off for everyone to say goodbye. I think about him often and the sacrifices he made for his community and his family.

Mr. Bock after all these years my Dad Stan Repka who worked with you still talks about you. I won't forget the day I came home from school and found out what had happened. Just know that you are still thought of everyday by me and my Dad. Rest in peace.

Sgt. Bock, I went to school with your daughter, Danette, and was at school on the day the news of your death was heard. My father was a State Trooper and part of the manhunt for your killer. My thoughts and prayers are constantly with your family.
I am a police officer now and I reflect often on your sacrifice. I hope you rest well, Sir. The watch is ours.

Danny, you have been sadly missed. I was in the 6th grade at the time our family lost you and now that I am grown , you are still remembered when I talk with family and friends. I am angry that your killer is claiming that he is retarded. but you were a kind and loving man, and you would say forgive if truethful and walk away. The family crashed after your death and it is still hard even after all these years. I hope you are still proud of us ,we are of you ...

Very glad to have found this website. JD, I was one of the many officers who responded at the time and was involved in the manhunt for Valdez. I was with the Sheriff's Office in Corpus at the time. We were able to find him after a very extensive search of the brushy area he tried to flee to. He is still in prison and will hopefully get the ultimate punishment he was given soon.

JD,
Glad to have found your memorial, will try to get a picture up, and get them the information on what happened. You were a great man, father, and police officer, I remember that terrible September 9th 1987, I will never forget, you were brave, you fought valiantly for the people of Corpus Christi, and the man who took you away, has fought to free himself, but the crime still remains, and someday on Gods plain, Albert valdez will face the "Man" and at that time, his punishment will be dealt accordingly.
You rest in peace JD, we still miss you even after 14 years, oh yeah, the park you used to talk about, well it has your name on it....
Take care and rest peacefully
