Reflections for Private Albert M. Swift
According to the book "On the Border with Mackenzie", in a seperate accounting of the Dec 1870 winter storm, temperatures dipped to -10 deg farenheit in north Texas.
Even allowing for inaccuracy of the time this was very sever for Texas and almost no one would have had adequate shelter or clothing.
Thos almost certainly contributed to Private Swift's death.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 139th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
