Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Timothy Scott Abernethy

Tim, our dear fellow Class 170 classmate and brother in blue, this day marks another year in which you were taken from your love ones and us. You served our country and our community well and heroically. Be at peace and know that you have left a legacy to be carried on by those that have come after you. You live on in the memories of all that knew you or had the great opportunity to work with you.

I worked with Tim during the 1990's at Kingwood Cablevision. He was a great friend and a very good family man. He will be missed by many people.

I was driving right behind them both when Officer Abernethy was pulling him over. I saw when they turned into the apartment complex as I was going to a nearby complex to pick up my mom. On our way out, I saw all the other officers rushing to the scene and knew something bad had happened. I have thought of him a lot throughout the years and it still saddens me to this day. Hope his family and those that love him are doing well. Revelation 21:4

I still remember seeing you walk the halls of the North Shepherd station. You were a great role model to the young officers, and the paradigm of an officer that leaves this life to early. I still have the Bible and challenge coin that your wife handed out to the officers at the station shortly after your passing. There is no doubt that if you could have said one last thing to all of those officers, you would have told them to place their faith in Jesus for hope beyond the grave. I will see you on the other side, Tim.

I never knew this Hero but I have made close friends with his family in Seattle, WA. And the pain of his loss is clearly evident even today, some 7 and 1/2 years later. I was a Seattle Police Officer / Bloomington Mn. Police Officer for 13 years before moving to the Seattle Fire Department (Arson Investigator) and still hold a police commission for my job. It doesn't matter where in this country/world a police officer makes the ultimate sacrifice, the Law Enforcement family feels the pain. Tim's family in Seattle still feels this pain quite intensely. It is a disgrace how the Law Enforcement Officers of this country are treated today, yet the amazing thing is you will still do your jobs with pride and unselfish sacrifice for your fellow humans. Blessed are the Peacemakers.
