Reflections for Special Agent Samuel Steele Hicks
I still hear the songs.
I still see the lights.
I still feel your love on cold wintry nights.
I still share your hopes and all your cares.
I'll even remind you to please say all your prayers.
I just want to tell you you still make me proud.
You stand head and shoulders above all the crowd.
Keep trying each moment to stay in His grace.
I came here before you to help set your place.
You don't have to be perfect all the time.
He forgives you the slip if you continue to climb.
To my family and friends please be thankful today.
I'm still close beside you in a new special way.
I love you all dearly, now don't shed a tear
cause I'm spending my Christmas with Jesus this year.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I can see that your family misses you very much. I am sure you continue to watch over your loving family mmbers and friends. I pray for their solace.

I have never been more proud than seeing your name on the front of the Baltimore Field Office for the first time this morning.

Sam, I've been thinking of you all year, but most especially so over the past several days, as we get closer and closer to the first anniversary of your EOW.
I've also been thinking of your buddies from work (FBI Pgh), some of whom I know by name (including some of your squad-mates). I know they are thinking of your a lot today too, and I wish I could be in the field office and in the field with them today. And we all have to actually sometimes put aside thoughts of you today if they interfere with work. And that's the way I think you would want it too. You'd certainly hope that we always remember you and miss - most especially today. But you would also not want us to sit around and mope and neglect our personal and professional lives. Balance is key.
Myself and lots of your work mates are also thinking of your family both immediate and extended. And also of your NAT mates from Quantico. And, also your former work-mates from Baltimore PD, along with your former high school students back in Baltimore, childhood, teenage, and college friends.
And I'm also thinking of the victims you helped (directly or indirectly) as a LEO, as well as the informants.
Even some of the subjects were glad in the long run that you and your fellow LEOs stepped into their lives. Subjects are not always "bad guys" themselves - they sometimes are just mixed up with some genuine "bad guys" and would like to have a way out of that situation. So, in the long run, some subjects are actually glad that LEOs stepped in and gave them a way out. I know, because several years ago, when your were still with Baltimore PD, some of the very people you would later closely serve with in Pittsburgh stepped in and gave me a way out.
So, Sam, thanks for being of so much good to so many people by just simply being yourself, by just simply going (career-wise and in your personal life) where your wisdom and gut feeling led you.
And, I took Organic I in college way back in the semster that includes 9-11. I hope to get back in school and complete my Bachelors soon. So, as I review Organic I in prep to take Organic II, I'll be thinking of your too. The Director mentioned Organic in your eulogy, you know. He said, "Sam was one of those rare minds that have mastered Organic Chemistry."
Again, thanks so very much for serving.

Sam I have learned so much about you through your mom, your beautiful wife and son as well as the numerous other family and friends whom you touched during your brief life... You don't really know what you have good untill it is taken away from you... I truly learned that this past year!. You were a true gem... a one of a kind... NO one can replace your valuable street experience and charm and sence of humor...
... May God bless you and keep you safe in his arms for ever...!

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Agent Hicks and we honor her distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.
To the family, friends, and colleagues of Agent Hicks, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Agent Hicks is distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for her brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Special Agent Hicks,
Thank you for everything that you did to help our country. You are a hero and I know that your son will be told all about you and I am sure that you will send him signs to show that you are still with him.
To Agent Hicks family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. When my brother was killed in the line of duty in 2004, his son, Gavin, was 13 months old. I had just helped my brother plan Gavin's 1st birthday party. I made several collages of my brother with Gavin and put them up throughout our house so Gavin could see them when he came to visit. Gavin would have us tell him the stories of each of the pictures. I know that Noah will love hearing all of the stories about his dad and seeing all of the pictures.
Emily-
My parents just met your mom on Tuesday and gave her my phone number. If you ever want to talk, please feel free to call. I know what you are going through and sometimes I had a hard time talking to people who have not been through the same thing. May God Bless You and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
