It was a great honor and privelege to be able to visit you and your family while you were in the hospital. I just wanted to let your family know as they probably already do that they are and will always be part of the network and brotherhood of law enforcement and that they can lean on us whenever they feel the need.

West Jordan Police

Police Officer Charles Skinner,

I am distressed that a young officer, who like so many others, who have taken over the task of keeping the peace has died doing his duty. Those of us who have toiled for many years and retired are simply lucky. We might look on an incident that has taken an officer's life and say he/she "should have", "could have" or "would have" but, the truth is we all have been in situations that could have gotten us injured or killed. We are just lucky. Some are not. It is these incidents that garner the reputation for danger that make the rest of us in law enforcement sometimes think we are a little bit better than most. We are not. We lived when others died. It is a battlefield. Some die and others do not. Officer Charles Skinner is a hero among heros. He put on the uniform and did his duty. That in itself makes him a hero. He is a brother and we will miss him. He represents what some of us are now and what some of us used to be. He was a cop.

To him I render a final salute.

Pennsylvania State Police

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Officer Skinner and to his family at North Salt Lake P.D. To the wife of Officer Skinner: Your husband gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty to ultimate cause; that cause is the freedoms we all enjoy, the peace we all get to face and without those we would we a nation of peril. The un-timely death of Officer Skinner is especially sad because Officer Skinner leaves behind two newborn twins that just turned 4 weeks old the day of his passing. We are all there for you, we will always be there for you and your children. It's not the way that Officer Skinner died that made him a hero, it was the way he lived.

God Speed my brother in blue, rest at ease, we have it covered down here, please just watch us from up there.

Fellow Utah Officer
