Rest in peace and watch over us my brother. Also know God is watching over your family. We lost a daughter to the same senseless nonsense. May your family be comforted and have peace during this tragic and difficult hour.

Hey buddy,
I had the privelege to attend your funeral yesterday as part of the Honor Guard. I never had a chance to meet you and know I missed out because of it. You were obviously a great husband and dad. Your character shined through yesterday as everyone spoke about you. It's officer like you that keep the community respecting that badge you wore and everything it represents. Good job Shane. I'm proud of your service and will do my best to carry on the same.

Yet again we grieve for one of our states finest. We continue to lose our brothers in such senseless ways. We again today got dressed in our best and shrouded our badges with the cloth that gets more use then it ever should to walk side by side and grieve. My heart goes out to Mrs. Figueroa and her young child. A young child that will never get a chance to have memories of her father through her own eyes but, through the eyes of everyone that knew him. I pray that all that knew him and loved him will help this child remember and always know that Shane was a hero in everyone's eyes. A hero everyday that passed that he wore that uniform. A person that daily protected our streets to be killed senselessly doing his job. A far too young hero to be taken from us. Shane I know that you will be looking down on your family watching over them as you watched over our streets. Please keep watch over us, protect us, and guide us through life's hard rules. Your watch has ended here on Earth and began above. We will miss you! I will say a prayer for your entire family to get through this grief as quickly and painlessly as humanly possible. We will always remember you Shane. As a protector, an officer, a father, a husband, a brother, and a son! Rest in peace Shane.
To Shane's family. I am truly sorry for this hard time in your life. I cannot say I understand because I do not think anyone does. I pray that you are able to get through this in the least painful way (if there is such a thing). I want to thank your family for Shane's service to the people of Phoenix. He will always be remembered as a hero to us. We are truly sorry that his child will never know him through her own eyes. I am truly sorry for your loss. May your hearts be mended with God's speed. May these reflections always help you remember how much Shane was respected and admired even by people who never met him. May he look down on his wife and young child with watchful eyes, keep them safe, and guide them in their memories of him.

Brother Shane,
I am so saddened for your family, friends, fellow officers, and especially your children. You are a very special person to now and to so young be in the arms of our heavenly father. I am sure you will be one of his best warriors and will obviously stand strong and stand tall for the endless work that is needed to be done. God bless you, work hard upstairs, I’m sure you will magnify your new calling. You will be missed.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

ASCENSION
And if I go,
While you’re still here---
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure
--behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
--both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest,
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
…I will be there.

Oh, the pain that is suffered when one so loved dies needlessly! Shane, you will be remembered, your sacrifice was not in vain. To all those who love you, may God bless and keep you, may the Lord make his face shine upon you and give you peace. You are in the prayers and hearts of many during these troubled times. God bless you.

Every time a police officer dies in the line of duty, thousands of other officers feel as if a family member has passed away. It matters not that we have never met, nor that I do not know your family, I know that you were serving a profession that is often considered a "calling". In your short life, you have served the public for three years, married, and had a beautiful child who will now only know you through pictures, stories, and remembrances such as these. But thankfully she will know you as a dedicated servant to helping the public, often people you do not even know. My own heart aches for you and your family, Shane. May you be blessed and appointed to watch over the other cops that watch over all of us.

Another one of the good guys gone...NEEDLESSLY!! we here in arizona have lost 2 in less than 3 wks of course no time to recover. what do you do and how do you react? there is no way and those of us who face the possibility of the very worst everyday its the worst possible thing to see on the news. this young man was 3 yrs. on with a 3 month old baby girl how will his wife explain this totally senseless act of recklessness? Only 1 yr. ago on oct. 31, 2007 he was shot at on duty and only recently told the county attorney how fortunate he felt to live and to see the birth of his baby girl. this mans death is only one of dozens of tragic ironies we have suffered here in az.Just the other night his entire squad had a press conf. and talked about him and as many times as i've seen it and expierenced it personally i will never ever forget the pain and sadness in their faces.WHY DO WE HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN? people say god only takes the good ones because their needed elsewhere. but why the good guys and not the bad who inflict it upon us? to his wife and baby girl you will never be forgotten there are to many of us who care to ever let that happen his uniform was blue and my husbands is brown but its only color..to his mom and dad thank you for the gift of his life to his father in law and father at mesa and maricopa pd's don't get discouraged just continue the job he started remember there are more good guys than bad and lastly to his squad at 400 you more than anyone know he lived and died, honor that and do what you do best everyday the grief hasn't even begun to really hit but don't let that get you down remember him and everything he stood for and why you all became police officers we know how much we've lost here and the many ways they've been taken from us but law enforcement here in the valley and arizona is very STRONG and we continue to be strong and support one another in the worst of times everyday that my husband goes to work i try and keep that in mind and pray that he comes home to me everynight so just remember no matter what agency or color of the uniform we are here to support you and those at phoenix p.d.. thank you to each and every person who puts on that badge and does the job everyday. may OFC.SHANE FIGUEROA rest in peace and may he rest in peace.
