I'd appreciate dedicating this poem to: LEO, Richard Bremer

Officer Down

People are killing America’s finest in your town and mine
Too many are dying how can criminals be so unkind
Each time I hear the TV reports or read the weekly news
Someone has assaulted a Police Officer so abusive they pay their dues

Why would anyone step across this worthless line?
Police Officers have families they somehow leave behind
When wives and children kiss them bye when off to work they go
The stress they feel until he returns keeps them feeling low

Nothing causes any pain like that of an “Officer Down”
They are the good guys and risk their life to protect our town
Whenever a Policeman stops you for a reason he has found
Americans need to treat them special instead of pushing them around

To “Protect and Serve” this is their primary goal
But they are stuck in the middle keeping the peace so bold
So why don’t we try to lessen the burden they must share
When they respond to a dying baby trying to demonstrate care

Each day you witness them on patrol for you and me
Trying to keep the peace and protect us with true sincerity
They’re risk takers trying to keep us safe inside our home
Many times they serve us till the end and then they die alone

The tape across the badge represents a fellow “Officer Down”
This tells us all about endless courage a heroes final round
So salute the next police officer that you come across
Let him know how much you care his life is like a coin toss!

Brother Richard, Welcome to Gods Kingdom. Your courage and your devotion to service had earned you a special place in the hearts of all you have left behind and a special spot in Gods police department. Notice that all your new brothers and sisters in the badge with you are also special in that they too gave the ultimate service to protect the citizens of their communities as you have. You are all very special law enforcement professionals and will serve for all eternity in peace and love. Know that your brothers nad sisters left behind will never forget you and will care for your family.

To the family: My heart breaks for you and the children. Having gone thru this in Feb of this year I can tell you I know what you are feeling and going thru. The person you need right now is God and you must pray your heart out for help to walk this road. Its long and winding and cruel but you will come thru this but your life of course is forever changed.
Love is more important than anything. Keep love in your heart and grieve all you need to. But keep talking about Richard - to anyone who will listen. Its soooo important in the grieving process.
May God hold you all in his arms.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent. He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered. He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served. He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.
