Reflections for Police Officer David Donald Tome

Officer Tome,
We never knew each other as our paths never crossed but I was shocked and saddened to learn of your passing. I left my fledgling career in Law Enforcement many years ago but am always grateful for the service and am humbled by the sacrifice people like you provide and give.

I hope your family, friends, fellow Regional officers and colleagues alike take pride and some comfort in the compassion shown, memories shared and the vast outpouring of thoughts and prayers from Police Officers and regular Citizens such as myself thru various media outlets. It shows that you Sir were an extremely well respected Officer and a kind person. Rest in Peace Officer!

My daddy was a policeman,” says the little boy.
“He protected you, and me.”
Always telling everyone he met,
And, letting everyone see,
That the love he has for his daddy,
Is for infinity.

His daddy did not want to go,
It was not his choice.
Sometimes, things don’t go as planned,
The little boy will never again
Hear his daddy’s voice.

Your family is in our prayers

The doctors did their best,
But, it was to no avail.
The little boys’ daddy died,
The bad man is in jail.

When you see the little boy
Let him know,
That the love his daddy has for him
Is for infinity, also.

I knew Dave for a short period of time. For the time that I had the pleasure of knowing him, he always had a smile on his face and eager to do what he loved best. I myself starting out my career take this as a reminder that anything can happen, whether you are prepared for it or not. In these times, hold on to the memories that you have of Dave and he will never leave your side. My sympathies to the family. May you rest in peace brother.

Our hearts are yet shattered again in 6 weeks of time. I am sure by now Officer Tome has been greeted by Sgt. Michael Weigand Jr.-E.O.W.-9/14/08, and is being shown the way. The communities that Officer Tome protected has suffered a great loss. We never got the chance to thank Officer Tome for his duty, honor, and sacrifice that he made everyday to help others. Unfortunately he had to make the ultimate sacrifice as he was following through with his duties.
To the Tome Family: Know that David is and always will be a HERO!!!!! Please know that the brothers and sisters of blue are here, and you can lean on them. We are very sorry for your tragic loss.
For the officers of Northern York Regional-Remember that David is a HERO!!!, and make his memory proud! We are so very sorry for your tragic loss.

Dody,
We haven't talked in a long time, but I can't stop thinking about you and the family. I remember meeting both of you in class at Penn State and finding out you were related to Brooks. I wish there was something I could do to make the pain go away. Take one day at a time and it is okay to cry. You don't have to be strong. Brooks and I were so much like you and Dave. Remember to think about all the great times together from high school-to your wedding-your home-and your growing family. We are here for you. Please know that and I will do anything I can to help you.
We love you so much and give your love to Rocky and the rest of your family,
Gwen and Brooks Cromer (and Kids)
