Dear Sir, as a fellow officer, I can tell you that your sacrifice will never be forgotten. It is evident from your many reflections that you were a very special person and loved greatly by your family and friends. May you rest in peace and may your family find comfort knowing that you have joined the ranks of an army of heroes. God Bless You..

Our Dear Sweet David,

How we still miss you everyday. Time is going by so fast, but it still seems like yesterday, that you were taken from us. The children are growing up so fast, you would be so proud of them. You are always with us, in our thoughts and in our hearts.

Today was the 5th Memorial 5K Run held in your honor to remember you. We were all concerned because, we had over 6 inches of rain in the past 2 days and were just praying that the rain would stop long enough for your race.
Well, sometimes prayers do come true.
The rain stopped and the sun even came out for the 5K run in which several hundred people (including family and friends) came to participant in the events of the day and remember you today. You would be so proud to see how Eli ran the 5 K race and really 'kicked it in for the final lap'.
We remember you with love and you will be in our hearts forever.

Thank you for two grandchildren.
They are a blessing to me.
A part of you that I can hug.

Today your little princess is 6 years old. It makes my day when she ask about you. As hard as it is to answer her questions, I am so great full and proud that I can do that. And every night she blows a kiss up to you.
We all miss you.
Love you Son.

Happy Birthday David!

The cake your mom had made looked great today! Not only would you be so proud of everyone - how we are handling this- the best way we know how I suppose, but we are all so proud of you. Not a thing goes by that doesn't remind of us you and how much we miss you and miss having you with us. This time of year is hard - especially with 2 days from now - every year, but then again, there are a lot of times that are hard without you - but we still tell everyone about you and always will :)

Hey David we miss you still, every second of every day. Today is your birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Your nephew Adler is with me, going to preschool with him today. He wishes you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY also. He was only a baby when you were taken from us, but Jess and Derek told him all about you. We keep your memory alive. Your two squirts are something else. We have so much fun with them, Eli is turning out to be some little athlete, and Josy a little dancer. You be so proud of them. Everyone is hanging in there by God's Grace. Love you always.

David,

What a week, first my 06 Journal. So many things in it some good and some sad because they will not happen now. Then the 1996 prom glass. A lot of great memory. Then driving around the trailer park. Alot of great times you had growing up there. Sledding down the hill. The garden and so many more great moments there. And soon the Leprechaun what fun we had in the yard and at the firehall. Dody I think loved trying to trap one. Or she thought we were crazy. A week full of all kinds of memory.
But a miss you more and more each day and I miss me.
XOXO

I first drove by the memorial cross on Route 15 about six months ago on my way to Maryland. It caught my attention not only because it was a memorial cross, but also because there was someone's name on it. (I've noticed other crosses along Rte 15 but none with a name, at least on the stretch of road I use.)

The memorial cross is very well done and very well positioned because people can read the name easily when they drive at a safe speed. I've always meant to look up who that person named David Tome was (I'm not from York County, I didn't hear about his death when it happened), but I doubted that I would ever find anything on the Internet since it didn't sound like a very uncommon name. I imagined I would have to sift through hundreds of results, perhaps in vain, to learn what had happened to him.

I did very much wonder how he had passed away, since there is no crossroad nearby and there wasn't anything like a pole right by the cross that could have caused a fatal accident. Tonight I finally got around to looking up the name David Tome. The loss of any life is a tragedy, but the circumstances of Ofc David Tome's death make it particularly tragic. It seems so unfair. Dear friends & family of Ofc Tome, I'm very sorry for your loss.

I wanted to leave a note to say that the cross helps people like me who are not from York County learn about Ofc Tome. It keeps his memory alive and even expands the number of people who have been touched by his life, even in death. I know it won't be a consolation to his relatives but I wanted to say that there are people who notice the cross by the side of the road and look up his name and are sad that he died so young and also are grateful for his service to his country.
