To the family:
Like Sarah, I was a police explorer, served four years in the US Air Force and am now a police officer. At the service, the chaplin explained how we don't choose this profession, we are called upon to do it. This struck me close to home considering the strikingly similar choices Sara and I made pursuing a similar life athough we grew up hundreds of miles away and never met. As a former explorer (and now an advisor for an explorer post), US Air Force veteran, and fellow law enforcement officer, I want to extend my deepest, heart-felt smypathy and thank you for sharing Sarah with our huge law enforcement family. She is missed.

Deputy Jones was a fellow officer when I was a Indiana S.P. Trooper posted in Bloomington. I will always remember that she lived and breathed the job, her shield was her life. She was a cop all the way through. The last thing any fellow officer wants to hear is OFFICER DOWN. Duputy Sheriff Jones is Monroe County's 1st Line of Duty. Rest In Peace. God Speed. We have your watch.

Deputy Haylett-Jones began her law enforcement career in 2006 with my agency, the Montgomery Police Department in Montgomery, Alabama. I had the privledge of being her commander. She was an outstanding police officer and carried herself with utter distinction. So bright, young, and full of life. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

This officer grew up knowing what she wanted to do with her life and she gave her life doing it. Sometimes the most mundane, routine assignments can turn deadly and lives are forever changed. It's a tragedy for all parties involved and a great loss to the law enforcement community and those that loved her.
