Your heroism and service is honored today on the 101rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.
My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
After reading the previous post by Andre, I researched the inident. Although the mob did take matters into their own head rather than waiting for a trial by judge or jury, nothing I read indicated the shooting was accidental. The deputy was shot in the leg and bled to death in the Nelson's front yard. The mother and her son who was described n local papers as being fourteen were lynched by the mob. Regardless of his age, the boy nor his mother shuld not have been killed by a mob and were deneid a trial because of the actions of an unruly mob. It should also be noted that the deputy on duty at the jail did try to stop the mob and was rendered helpless when he was tied up.
Many people suffered but Deputy Loney was shot searching for stolen goods in the line of duty, and it is his sacrfice I am honoring today as this is his anniversary day.

STORIES THAT MATTER:
The story needs to be told right. The boy was Lawrence Nelson and he was 12 years old. The shooting was accidental. The weapon that was used was a Winchester rifle.
I'm sure Deputy Sheriff Loney was a wonderful family man and a excellent officer. But the story and the truth about what happen is the topic. Several people loss their lives. The Nelson family and the Loney family loss their loved ones. This is what matters. I'm sorry for the loss of both families.
