To the grieving family,

I did not know Warden Whatley personally, but I can relate to the tremendous amount of stress he was under. I was the previous game warden in Van Horn, and that was the hardest four years of my life. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you. May the Lord send his comforting angels to surround you with love and peace. For "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God." May the Lord guide you and aide you in raising two beautiful children; letting them not forget what a wonderful man and hero their father was.

Warden Whatley - green blood runs deep and may you rest in peace. Your brothers from all colors will take it from here.

Officer Matt Kilpatrick
TPWD (prior Van Horn Game Warden)

I have known George for over 30 years and can honestly say that I've never been around a more solid man. His care for friends, family, and those he could help never was put aside. He was a true and loyal friend, family man, LEO, and a man of strong faith in his God. He put family and God first and made sure his family knew his love for them, not only by words but by the gift of his time and attention. Not a better man ever graced this earth than George Whatley, he was always fair and straight with everyone who he was in contact with.

I will continue to keep Kelly, Sam, and Seth in my prayers during this time and the days to come.

Rest in peace with those who have gone before you and prepare a place in heaven for those to join you. Job well done my friend!
