Kris
I will always remember you for your dedication and the love you had for your family and the job. I am really going to miss your enthusiasm, especially when it manifested itself in your infectiously high pitched laughter. I am certain that at its peak your laughter could only be heard by dogs. I will also miss keeping a tally of the number of curse words that came out of your mouth and with each one Whitney’s college fund grew by a quarter.
My heart goes out to Whitney, Brian and the rest of your family.
You were a top notch officer and friend
Rest in Peace, I will always remember you and your ultimate sacrifice

Kris Fairbanks was my friend. I was there when she got her first seasonal job with the National Park Service. I took she and Brian on fire assignments. I watched them both grow up into wonderful people who contributed to all around them. I had the fun of taking Brian, Kris and Whitney to Manhattan to see the sights of a different world. Now she is gone taken from us by a sociopath who just couldn't get his life right. I will miss her laugh. No one could replicate her high pitched laugh or wave of profanity coming out of the dark at 0300 on a fire line in Oregon. Now Whitney has Brian and Brian has Whitney. In the big Western sky, Kris's spirit lives where ever rivers run wild, animals are free and justice needs to be served.
